Yesterday I was at my storage unit and noticed a neat stack of storage containers against a wall. I smiled when looking at the over 5,000 CD’s stored and immediately thought of Sylvia. When she moved into her marital home with Rod, she left behind her long records. My Brothers and I were not allowed to listen in our house to the music of the day. These rare gems were my portal into collecting music. I read the liner notes to learn the history of the artists, what label they recorded on, who the writers of the songs were, the publishing companies that published the works.
In later years, I delighted in making her laugh uncontrollably by saying to her, “look what you started”.
I thank her for the gift of music that she gave me, which had been such an important part of my life.

Sylvia Jeanette Carr-Flakes was the loving and loved sister of Henry King Jr. (Esther) of Albany, NY, Kendon King (Jackie) of Harker, Texas, John King (Lrma) of Spring, Texas and Jana Rogers (Christopher) of Brooklyn, NY. We and our families will remember the great times that we shared with her. We remember and will cherish the wonderful times with Sylvia that made us laugh and the times together when we cried. Sylvia was a beautiful, free spirit who danced to the beat of her own drum. She was a smart, brave, and adventurous woman who blazed trails and lived life on her own terms. Sylvia was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, auntie, great auntie, and friend. She will be missed by us all. May Sylvia rest in eternal peace in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.
