No doubt I am one of many who would meet Susie for breakfast at Pete’s Harbor in Redwood City … definitely one of her haunts back in the day.

Susie was larger than life. A superhero. In my childhood, she loomed large as a loving, fun, and endlessly adventurous character in my life. I adored her. Our adventures cracked open my world, and her relationship with life and its fleeting nature seeped into me, calling me to live life spontaneously and fully engaged.
Over time, we drifted in and out of connection. But even in the most distant of times, the space that her spirit occupied in me was significant. I cannot overstate how much Susie meant to me, how much I loved her, and how much of a void her passing has left. I miss her tremendously. And I know that she lives on in me and now in my son, Fox, who shares her sense of fun and adventure, and (for better or worse) her love of pranks.

Mrs McCance was an amazing person with a big heart. Hearing about her passing was a huge shock. I wish I got to hear more of her stories and I wish she could have been a part of our lives for longer. Rest in peace <3
