Burial

Dear all,
Our beloved Susie will have her final request of a sea burial in Santa Cruz this coming Monday March 9th at 6.30am.
In her will, she requested to be buried at sea, to be reunited with her soulmate and husband, Mike McCance. The wonderful team at Sea Spirit Memorial are making this last poignant wish come true.
If you would like to attend Susie's special send off, here are the details:
Please meet by the boat in Santa Cruz by 6.15am, as Susie's casket will arrive at 6.30am and be transferred to the boat. There will then be a short time for prayers and private reflection, where people can go on the boat for a few minutes and bode their farewell, before the boat departs from the dock at 7am.
It is possible for up to 15 people to go out on the boat for the burial itself. The boat will go 10 miles offshore and the whole journey will be 3-4 hours. For those who wish to remain on land, you can gather on the beach. Walk or drive down Lake Avenue and you will meet the gorgeous beach- a lovely open space to reflect, congregate and watch the boat go out.You may be interested to know that there is a coffee shop, Java Junction, right there on the beach. It opens at 7am and might be a fitting meeting point to share stories afterwards. Susie loved her coffee.
Please note the weather may have the final say. If the burial has to be postponed, it will take place at the next possible date when the boat company can go out.
Due to distance, some of her close family will sadly not make it. We plan to go to the water near our homes and pay our own respects at the very same time she sets sail at Santa Cruz. This might be something you would also like to do if you cannot attend. For those absent, but who still want to honor Susie on Monday, Donna Quigley will be hosting an online gathering for family and friends to share photos, stories and memories of Susie. This virtual meeting with be from 10:30am to 3:30pm (Pacific time) Everyone is welcome!
🔔 Here's the link to connect to the meeting 🔔
https://meet.goto.com/tomcich…This online meeting is an "Open House" format, so you can come and go as your schedule allows. More information about this can be found on its separate events page below.
Mary Coleman, Susie's cousin has been so supportive since Susie passed and will be at the port by the Sea Spirit boat on Monday morning. She has kindly agreed to be the main point of contact for the days events, so if you have any questions, her email is maryfrancescoleman@gmail.com.
This is not planned as a big formal gathering. That will come at her memorial. This burial is more intimate, but in the spirit of Aunt Susie's 'the more the merrier' outlook, anyone who wants to be there is so welcome, so do share with her nearest and dearest if we have forgotten someone in error.
If you could RSVP that would be great, so we can look out for you, and also get an idea of numbers for the boat.
Sending you all love,
The Betz Tribe X
Please send any songs you think are meaningful and related to Aunt Susie to Mary. She is creating a touching playlist for Susie's burial.

Directions and parking info from the boat company Sea Spirit Memorial
Getting Here and Parking
Our boat is located in the SE section of the Santa Cruz “lower” harbor on the end of Dock PAn easy way to find us is to put the address 333 Lake Ave Santa Cruz into your cellular device. This will take you to Bayside Marine tackle store, dock P is directly across the parking lot from Bayside. There will be a sandwich board at the entrance to dock P, where you will find ample parking. **
“Visitor” parking spots are located in front and around our dock.
The best time and area to purchase a parking voucher is when you first dip down into the parking lot on your way to 333 Lake Ave. On your right side after dipping down into lot, you will see a blue parking kiosk that takes credit cards, dollars, and change. We recommend paying for an "extra" 1/2 hour over your scheduled time. The price for parking is $2.00 an hour.
Once you receive your paper parking voucher, get back in your car and continue to 333 Lake ave.
Only use visitor parking spots. Parking fees are set by the harbor and non-refundable.
Additionally, if you plan a longer activity at the harbor we have all day parking passes available for $20.00. These may be used in any of the four sections of the Santa Cruz Harbor.
For further parking information please contact the harbor office at (831)475-6161.What to Wear
Dress in layers as you may find a need to adjust your attire. The weather on the Monterey Bay can be unpredictable with warm sun one minute and then cloud coverage, fog or wind the next. Bring a jacket and wear sunscreen. Beanie type hats and gloves are recommended during winter months. If there is a chance of light rain you may wish to bring a rain jacket. However we do have rain ponchos available for a $2.00, if you wish.NO heeled shoes. This means no high heels, wedges, or heeled boots due to the unpredictable motion of the ocean.
