I was one of Starla's health care providers for the last 5 years or more and she was really delightful and starting to emerge out of her early challenges in ways that were truly amazing. She was a sweet and delightful girl and she will be missed at our office.

Starla was the first kid I got to proudly serve in my early learning experience working with youth as her 1:1 Para. She knew how to always make me laugh while I spent my days working with her. She also knew how to get out of something that she didn't want to do such as if it was math time... Instead of math she would enjoy singing her favorite songs from Frozen or playing her legos or writing her stories. I remember she had once written a story about me and her and we were both princesses but I was the "Bossy Princess" Miss. Kiana. Starla was more then just a student I got to serve she was like a tiny friend that I made in the end. Someone who made me laugh a lot during the time period of working with her and she even got me to sing more... her voice and every tiny little part of her will forever and ever be missed. I will always carry Starla in my heart and cherish every moment I was able to work with her and keep her in my mind for every child I help serve in the future. I feel safe to know that you are at peace my beautiful friend and it was ok to let it go. <3

Starla had a light all her own. I will remember her smile, love of life, sweet singing voice, and love of reading. I had the honor to teach her for several years, and I will miss her deeply. She was a blessing to all who met her, and she will be missed at Emerald Park.
Peace,
Mrs. Newbury

We did not know Starla well, but we knew very well of the love that surrounded her. Rest now peacefully in Jesus' loving arms, little angel, rest in peace. Your bright, shining light will be missed in this world. ✨

Ann, my heart wept when you shared the tragic news of your shining Starla’s sudden death from a sudden-onset illness.

The burden, the intense work of walking though the fire of grief moment after moment, day after day, months into years can be soul crushing, mind numbing, body breaking, reality altering, worst nightmare living while awake.

This is especially true with any sudden death. And it is most especially true with the sudden death of a child of any age, but here Starla died so, so young.

I posted on to my FB friends and asked that they consider donating to honor Starla and continue her work to educate others about FASD.

I’ll be there next Wednesday for the service, reception and when Starla’s body…her temple that house her soul… is laid to rest.

In the meantime, Ann, I offer you this in hopes it may give you some semblance of support in what can still feel like an insurmountable place to be in.

My daughter (Rayne) met Starla in elementary school and they became quick friends. Starla was such a sweet and special girl. She always went out of her way to make Rayne feel special and cared for. When Rayne was severely bullied at school Starla was her constant companion and encourager. Rayne's life became richer with Starla in it. I loved listening to them chat and play games together on Messenger Kids. We will forever treasure the many cards and letters that Starla mailed Rayne over the last 18 months, when they couldn't be together in person. The loss of her friendship will have a great impact on Rayne, but we will remember it always. Rest well, sweet girl. You are loved.

I found this video that Starla had made this past July.  I think she was practicing blogging after watching a Barbie Movie.  I have to admit it made me dissolve into laughter.
I will never forget the adorable little blood ball of energy who walked into preschool and quickly won the hearts of many at Soos Creek! What an honor it was to be her first teacher, to watch her learn and grow and to be able to continue to follow her journey. My heart breaks for you and Alex and Clara! Thank you for sharing your precious shining star with me. Your Soos creek family is grieving with and for you all! Starla left a sparkle in the world and I know will continue to watch over you and her siblings. Sending much love!

In second grade Starla's struggles in school grew. She needed frequent breaks and help from her staff to engage in learning. Starla wanted her friends to understand her difficulty and together she and I made this video.

Starla loved spending time with Daddy Mike

Starla loved to go the the group play therapy sessions.  She especially loved when they had out different musical things to explore.  I have a lot of wonderful memories of our time playing there.

This was taken August 7, 2014.

We are truly sorry for your loss. Jayden enjoyed talking to Starla during remote class last year and was always happy to see her around the neighborhood. He was truly devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers of comfort and healing go out to you and your family.

Starla was a fun, bright, and creative girl. She loved games and coloring Elsa. I will never forget the fun times we had together in our sessions. It’s hard to hold back the tears and I will truly miss her.

Starla was an amazing human being, who always brought joy to my world! I will miss having her stop by my office to say Hi or wave at me.  Sending my deepest sympathy to the whole family.  Continue to shine bright Starla🌟
