Sherry's obituary
Sherry Joy Klein, 74, of Damariscotta ME, passed away on September 1, 2024 at Miles Memorial Hospital.
Sherry Joy Jackson, born to Shirley Fiske and William Jackson in Portland, Maine. Sherry was the oldest of five siblings. Sherry’s youth was spent in South Portland, Maine. In 1967, she graduated from South Portland High School where she was a majorette and had a ton of fun with her tight knit group of friends.
After graduating high school, Sherry took what would be the first of many solo trips and adventures within the US. During her travels, she spent time in Montana with her father Bill, his wife Helen, and their daughter Shawna. She then worked at Malvern Delicatessen in Pennsylvania where she fell in love with the owner, George Klein. They married, started a family, and after closing the deli, opened a restaurant named the Valley Tavern.
After several years, Sherry returned to Maine with her children. She spent the majority of her career writing for the company newspaper and also as an executive secretary for Unum insurance. After early retirement from Unum, she changed careers and followed her true passion: bringing joy (her middle name!) to assisted living facilities as an activity director and as a CRMA. Before fully retiring she enjoyed being a product ambassador and doing wine tastings for Hannaford supermarket .
Not only did Sherry love making arts and crafts, she was good at almost everything she put her mind to learning. She was happiest when making a home beautiful. All who entered her living space knew she had a special talent for making a space comfortable and uniquely decorated with simplicity in mind. A talented cook, she enjoyed preparing and eating a healthy vegetable based diet.
Sherry was a fan of watching football. Go Pats! Needless to say, she was sad when Tom Brady left the Patriots. She loved going out dancing . Her favorite music genre was country (new and old), and her favorite song and soundtrack to her life was "On the Road Again" by Willie Nelson. She also LOVED the band the Beatles. Paul was her favorite.
After retirement Sherry resumed her solo adventuring, with many road trips to the Southwestern US and several years living in Arizona, North Carolina and Florida. She loved her life of adventures, but ultimately returned to Maine to be closer with her family. Several years were spent living in Bath, ME, a town that she adored. In her final years as she was living with dementia, she moved closer to her daughter, Erica "Cricket", who helped care for her.
Sherry is survived by her son and daughter, Eric and Erica Klein, grand-children, Gage and Fina Klein, grand-dog , Sophie Klein, and by three of her siblings, Bonnie Jackson, Jerre Jackson, and Richard Jackson.
