From the moment I entered this world, I knew I was loved. My mom always told me I was her miracle—her surprise baby, born when she was 39. My childhood was an emotional roller coaster for her. Doctors told her I wouldn’t make it past the age of five. They even granted what they believed would be my last wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation—a trip to Disney World.

But through prayer, faith, and her refusal to accept that answer, I am here today—34 years old and soon to be 35.

My mother taught me so many life lessons. She taught me how to fight corporations by always writing everything down: who you spoke to, the time you spoke to them, and exactly what was said. She always reminded me that there is always someone above the person you’re dealing with—and if you need to take it to the top, then take it.

She loved her family fiercely and believed deeply that you only get one family, so you must cherish them. She taught me to share—even when I didn’t want to, because I definitely had that spoiled-child syndrome. Her famous line was, “If you do for one, you do for all,” and she lived by that rule every single day.

I could go on and on about my mom, but one thing I know for sure is that she wanted me to be okay. And like I told her in her final days—I will be okay. She got me this far, and I will carry her memory with me always.

So Mommy, let me say one last time what we always said to each other:
I love you soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

Until we meet again—watch my back. Kiss Grandma and Grandpa for me. Hug my Daddy for me. Hug Granny tight. Tell Phil that I’m okay. His little sister is going to be fine, and I’ll do better about being there for his baby girl and his son.

I’ve got this. You can rest now. God has me, and I have the family. 🙏🏿
