Happy Heavenly Birthday Shawn...aka Mr Red Shoes.
To lose one of the greatest runners I've ever had the privilege to watch at such a young age is heartbreaking. To lose one of the greatest people I've ever met is heartbreaking. In high-school he had already become a legend, and as great as he was as a runner he was even a better person, he took time to give me pointers and he barely knew me,  it was enough that I was a pirate Oceanside high-school!!! And that speaks volumes!!! Rest well Brotha Pirate!!!!thank you

I was so shocked and sorry to learn that Ouyang Qiang is no longer among us, delighting those around him with his smile and good cheer.  He was my "xiao laoshi" for first-year Chinese back in the '80s at Dartmouth, and I have nothing but the best memories of him as a teacher and a human being.  He was a natural comedian, actor and first-class linguist - he made getting up early for language drill worthwhile!  I know he will be missed by all those close to him - even in my far distant orbit, the earth feels a little less warm without him upon it.  Blessings to all of you, and may his memory be a blessing forever.

Hi Monica & Brandon, I’m so sorry for your loss. I was a TAS tiger baby (Class of ‘16) and grew up seeing Mr. O’Neal around. I remember during Lower School lunches when Mr. O’Neal would come around to our tables to ask how we were doing and if we were enjoying our lunches. I didn’t know him well, but I distinctly remember how he made us feel so welcome with his sunny disposition.

My deepest condolences to the O'Neal family, although nearly a month late.

I was in TAS from 2000 to 2004. During most of my time there, Mr. O'Neal was the food director. I was always amazed at his control of professionalism and continuous string of ideas for the lunch menu, which was something we looked forward to after tough high school mornings of classes, self-studying, or just raging teenage hormones in general.

He was always friendly and worked to make the school as friendly as possible during non-teaching/learning hours for everyone. I feel that he also led by example and adult on how to treat others and be a professional.

As an alumni, seeing his familiar silhouette in school always brought back good vibes and memories of many many things. Our occasional chitchat and talks made me feel I was connecting to a genuine person and not just an employee. It brings comfort that in a private American school, there was a number of teachers and staff that I learned from to be the adult I am today.

I am glad to have met him and knew him all these years. He will be dearly missed. His principles and legacy, will live on in the hearts of those who care and connected with him. Thank you and rest in peace, Mr. O'Neal.

Shawn was joyous. Just thinking of him brings a joyous laugh to my heart, and this is reflected in so many of the condolence notes here. Even with the distance of time and place, he will be very much missed. My heartfelt condolences to all Shawn's family.

Shawn was one of the first people I met in beginning Chinese class at Dartmouth. We all had a wonderful time together learning basic Chinese language skills in class and through drill instruction. The class would also frequently go to lunch at Miss O’s Chinese cafeteria restaurant where we all came to know each other better. Shawn sticks in my memory as a bright and engaging friend who always made time for the people he loved. I am so happy I was able to reconnect with him in recent years. You will be sorely missed.
