Scott's obituary

Scott Douglas Krueger passed away on November 2, 2022. He leaves behind his wife, Julie Dean Krueger, and three children, Colin, Grant and Andrew. Also lovingly remembering Scott are his parents, Jerry and Phyllis Krueger; his sister, Julie Fritcher (husband Bill); his aunt, Marian Lindley; cousins, Kim Varner (husband Dave), Kris Lindley (wife Anne) and Jeanine Hinshaw (husband Randy) and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Scott was a remarkable man, husband, father, son, cousin and friend who had an incredible gift for inspiring people to envision their full potential. He took joy in listening, learning, counseling, coaching and planning. He was a profoundly insightful man, offering perspectives on people and events, motivating others to think more deeply or differently about their own perspectives. The impact Scott had on so many will never be fully known because the manifestation of his influence may not yet have occurred; this is part of his legacy we will always cherish.

He loved his family with his whole being; there is nothing in the world he was more proud of than his three children: Colin, Grant and Andrew. He gave each of them the gift of unwavering love, support, and encouragement to discover and pursue their own unique passions; he strongly believed the happiest and most successful people are those who do what they love. He was proud beyond words to have raised three artists who love and support each other and the world around them. He loved his wife with a depth and fervor only soulmates understand. He and Julie were partners in the truest sense, strengthening, resting on, caring for and loving each other to the fullest during their 36 years of marriage; together, they believed life to be an adventure.

Scott's network of friends knew no bounds, people he cared about and connected with through shared passions: the arts, architecture, education, human rights, politics, music, fashion, gardening, travel, and food (just to name a few). He cherished the idyllic childhood shared with his sister, cousins, parents, aunt, and grandparents; summers spent at the lake, tennis, golf, canvassing for Jerry Ford at age 10. A fervent anglophile to his core, he considered London and the English countryside a second home.

Part of Scott’s essence was his love of, and incredible sense for, the aesthetic. Design influenced his existence. He took great pride in making our homes beautiful, warm and comfortable. He had a keen eye for color, discerning shades of beige, gray, black or white that would leave most people bewildered. He loved to influence the fashion of his kids and wife; to be beautiful and make a statement without calling attention to it.

The foundation for Scott’s life was his love for God and the surety of God’s love for him which was greatly influenced by his Grandma Oakley. Scott was never afraid to question and wrestle with his faith; these questions and challenges made him that much stronger. He held a very high bar for himself and humanity, often saying the only thing he could not tolerate was intolerance. He loved the uniqueness, beauty and individual experiences of all people and savored the gift of diversity in our world.

Scott’s lasting legacy will be his comfort with life’s complexity, with living in the gray, and he took great pleasure in navigating its ambiguity and helping others do the same. We will forever miss his insight, humor, impeccable style, the experiences he created, and his immense love.

Rest in peace, our beloved Scott.
