Mr. Sam,

At only 6 years old I met my best friend.  Sam Parker Jr.  We bonded over the typical things that 6 years olds bond over.  Mostly the mysteries of the universe.  That and farts.  I got to meet Mr. Sam Sr shortly after and was intimidated by his stature but comforted by his kind demeanor.  Mr. Sam was my first coach.  Playing soccer suited me.  Not because I was particularly talented or athletic or competitive.  It suited me because I got to spend time with friends in an environment that was accepting outside of the comfort of my home.  Mr. Sam was a terrible coach.  Not because he was loud or because he didn’t seem to know how soccer worked, but I think because he just loved spending time with Sammy.  I had the privilege of spending a bunch of time with Mr. Sam in my teens.  Staying at Mr. Sam's was a departure from the norm but in some of the best ways.  Some of the most poignant memories I have that reinforced my confidence took place there.  I think that mine and Sammy’s friendship was thoroughly forged there.  Mr. Sam was always there.  A sometimes lumbering giant that gave me enormous comfort simply by being him.  I love you Mr. Sam
