Ruth's obituary
Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, and friend, Ruth Eileen Therese Moan Brandt entered the sunset of her life on earth March 3, 2020. This was 11 days before the COVID19 Quarantine. That being so, the Memorial planned for March 15, 2020, with a St. Patrick's Day theme, as she was 100% Irish, needed to be postponed...until July 25, 2020, outdoors. Since mom selflessly donated her body to science at Stony Brook Hospital, her body was cremated on July 26, 2022 and received back the following Friday. Now it is time to go to her earthly resting place with dad in Calverton Cemetery in Calverton, NY. This will occur on Friday, October 7, 2022, with a Prayer Service in her home prior to burial. This is the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary, as mom had a sincere devotion to Jesus' Mother, Mary.
Mom grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She took the subway into Manhattan where she worked for National Needlecraft on 5th Avenue from 1943-1954. Mom always would say how much she loved working and the people there! N O W…. how many can say that today!!!???? It was so different back then as companies had loyalty to and much appreciation for their employees and it was, as mom would say, your second family. Mom had a column she would write under the alias, “Nancy Baxter” in what was called “Needlecraft News”. I just found several of these pages a few weeks ago going through a draw. Mom then married a man that she knew from the neighborhood (my dad, Thomas), moved to Farmingdale, and I came along. Then 11 years later, Joanne.
When dad retired, so did mom and moved to Lake Ariel, PA. She helped dad with Habitat to Humanity, volunteered at there Church and had wonderful times with their new friends and traveling. In 1998 they moved to Ridge, NY and gained more wonderful friends, joined the Ladies Auxilary, volunteered at St. Mark RC Church where she joined the Catholic Daughters and was Treasurer at one time. Mom loved flowers and gardening, getting a "good" days work done, and travelling here, too, with new friends.
The one thing she missed most was her husband. Now she is once again, dancing in his arms, within the Love of Jesus!
