When I remember Dad, I see him sporting the colors of browns, tans and earth tones mostly. He was a casual dresser, but when he got dressed up, he got dressed up! Sharp as a tack.

Dad always warmly greeted me as "Daughter". And that deeply touched my heart whenever he addressed me as his daughter. He was the father that I never had.

He greeted everyone with a smile regardless as to who that person was. No one was a stranger.

Dad had a deep passion for Western movies. I enjoyed hearing him make comments to the TV or give a chuckle as he watched the shows. He loved John Wayne.

Dominoes was his favorite game, I believe. He had no mercy. It was fun playing with him and watching his face light up and hearing him laugh whenever he won a hand.

Dad's favorite place to relax that I know of, was his comfortable chair in the living room. He would recline back and take afternoon and evening naps.

Lorraine, these are some of my thoughts. I will be honest with you, it brought tears to my eyes writing this. I am going to miss him so much.

I wish he remained well and now I will miss Dad's funeral in person, but I will be watching. I truly appreciate Mom’s love and understanding.

I know you are taking good care of her.

Love,

Myra

In the Oxford dictionary beside the words ‘Family Man’ is a picture of my father. Dad took us to see as much of the world as he could when time allowed. We visited every parish in Jamaica and several cities in the UK. With his love of the sea, he taught himself to swim at a young age, and every opportunity to take us to the beach we would go and enjoy ourselves swimming together and sitting around the table eating fried fish, bammy and festival.

Dad loved music; reggae, ska, and dancing. We heard he was the rave when he just went to England- all the ladies at the club wanted to dance with him especially because he learned to be so respectful of women from his mother, Lillian.

As we look through our family photo collection, we were hard-pressed to find a photo of him by himself. In almost every photo he was right there with the love of his life, Dorothy.

Dad could easily win the Father and Husband of the Year award. He was handy in the kitchen, making rice & peas for Sunday dinner, frying up batches of corn beef fitters & conch soup, and making Punch with Dragon Stout.

What started with freshly picked cherries from our backyard, juiced to make a refreshing drink, became Dad’s passion for making delicious smoothies. A smoothie connoisseur of sorts. Anything fruit or vegetable – pumpkin, carrot, spinach, cucumber, mango, banana, sour-sap, beetroot, starfruit, papaya, Ethiopian apple, Breadfruit punch. If it could be juiced, he would make a drink.

Except for the evening hours and Saturday afternoons when he relaxed in his favorite recliner watching westerns, wrestling Dad never sat still. There was always a bill to pay, a friend to assist, family to visit and even shopping at the market. You could count on him to get things done.

His trade as a Carpenter was his hobby and he used it to add an extension to our home and help a lot of people. Remodeled bathrooms, kitchens, extensions on people’s homes, churches, and more, Dad did it all.

Aside from his favorite seat in the house, a reclining sofa, his favorite places to get away and relax are Tapioca Village Retreat in Castleton and RIU Hotel in Runaway Bay

With Love

Patricia, Carlie, Myra & Lorraine
