Rupert's obituary

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, the family of Rupert Alphonso Cuff announces his peaceful passing on December 12, 2023, at the age of 92. Born in Bath, St. Thomas, Jamaica, Rupert was the eldest son of four to Lillian Milwood and the eldest of nine to Leonard Cuff. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who lived a life characterized by hard work, integrity, and boundless love.

Rupert is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Cuff, and their children Patricia, Carlie, and Lorraine. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Stephen and Jeremy Cuff, Marc Major, and Nicole Hughes, and a cherished great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren - Jacob and Alanna. Rupert's leadership and wisdom extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of his siblings, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and community members.

Rupert's journey took him to Birmingham, England, where he met Dorothy and contributed significantly to the post-World War II rebuilding effort as a skilled carpenter. His strong work ethic and leadership qualities led him to become a respected job site foreman. In 1974, Rupert returned to Jamaica, making his home in Patrick Gardens, where he continued to be a pillar of strength for his family and community.

Throughout his life, Rupert was known for his unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and his community. He was a man who stood as a beacon of hope and resilience, offering guidance and support to all who knew him. In his later years, Rupert's faith deepened, bringing him even closer to God and enriching his life with spiritual fulfillment.

Rupert also maintained a passion for walking, believing in the health benefits and joy it brought to his daily life. His routine walks were a testament to his dedication to a healthy lifestyle, even into his nineties.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered support and condolences during this difficult time. A celebration of Rupert’s life will be held on 12 January 2024 at Boulevard United Church at 10:30 AM, where friends and family are invited to share memories and honor his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boulevard United Church Building Fund via this website. Rupert's commitment to his church, and community and his love for others will continue to inspire us all. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
