About
Cherokee County Meals On Wheels was founded in 1984 by the Gaffney Ministerial Association, starting out with 20 meals over two routes, one in Gaffney and one in Blacksburg. At the beginning, the Gaffney hospital provided meals and then we moved into the kitchen at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church to make meals until we were able to secure a physical location at a property downtown next to First Baptist Church, where we set up headquarters and began cooking in our own kitchen. In May of 1994, we moved into our current building at 403 W. Montgomery St, debt free, and served 167 meals over 15 routes. Now, in 2022, we serve over 360 meals over 25 routes, with four of those in Blacksburg. We are currently in construction for an expansion to our building with a new lobby, offices and kitchen that will be able to accommodate 1000 meals.
