Roslyn Calhoun was born on November 22, 1951, in Hackensack, New Jersey, the fifth of six children born to Jacob and Josephine Calhoun. She shared her childhood with her siblings Reginald, Marlene, Evelyn, Eugene, and Tyrone. After graduating from Saratoga Springs High School in New York, in 1970, Roslyn moved to Kansas City to join her sister Evelyn.
