Roslyn's obituary
Roslyn Calhoun was born on November 22, 1951, in Hackensack, New Jersey, the fifth of six children born to Jacob and Josephine Calhoun. She shared her childhood with her siblings Reginald, Marlene, Evelyn, Eugene, and Tyrone. After graduating from Saratoga Springs High School in New York, in 1970, Roslyn moved to Kansas City to join her sister Evelyn. She began building her life there, becoming a loving aunt to Mark, Ricky, and André. In Kansas City,
Roslyn formed lifelong bonds with friends who became family. Her friendship with Stephanye Daniel Doyle opened the doors of love and family for more than fifty years. Our extended and devoted families are connected forever. Some would say Roslyn was Claudean Daniel’s bonus and favorite child. This love and friendship offer us comfort now, as we mourn the loss of such a beloved woman.
Roslyn’s most cherished roles were as a mother to Monique and a grandmother to Esian Michael and Israel Saint. She adored her grandsons, and her face would light up every time she saw them. Her joy and love for them were undeniable, it knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment she spent with them. We will continue to tell the stories that keep her memory alive. Roslyn’s love for life went far beyond her family.
After a rewarding career, she retired from the Government Employee Hospital Association (GEHA) in 2015. As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, she brought the same energy and enthusiasm to game days that she poured into everything she did. Roslyn’s love for adventure led her to travel widely, embracing new cultures, savoring delicious food, and enjoying fine wine. Family trips created cherished memories, from the islands to destinations across America and Europe, with Italy holding a special place in her heart. She and her sister Evelyn were also avid bowlers, competing in tournaments nationwide. Wherever she went, Roslyn’s vibrant spirit lit up the room, leaving behind unforgettable joy. Her adventurous soul and radiant smile will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Reginald, Marlene, Evelyn, and Eugene, and her bonus mother, Claudean Daniel. She is survived by her brother Tyrone Calhoun (Lynette); her daughter Monique Henderson and her husband Esian; grandsons Esian and Israel and a host of nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
