My condolences to Bonnie, Roland and Reina.

i am so grateful for the 62 years of friendship with your mom and grandma. she was someone i admired for her intelligence and her good heart. she was a good wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, teacher and friend. if only we had more moms and teachers like her, we wouldn’t have all the problems we have today.

i have always envied your large family, being an only child from   a very westernized family, i was introduced to your traditional Chinese family. i will always remember your grandma, your aunts and uncles. of course i especially remember Jessie and Angie.

i am thankful to your mom and the rest of you for sharing so many things with me through the years. it has been a long journey, she has left a wonderful legacy for all of you. i know you will miss her, but you have so many cherished memories. nothing can replace that. i wish we had completed the the family. cookbook!  and i will never forget our favorite statement—“we can do that”!  we had so much fun, and i will cherish all those memories.

Your mother was a great lady indeed. She was extremely intelligent , well read, yet with common sense and compassion for the underdogs. We feel privileged to know you and Kit, along with wonderful parents of both sides.  We plan to be with you in the memorial service to share your pain and great memories of this special woman. Always laughing.  Always a wonderful hostess at Colby or Sunset lunches.  Such a positive force.  Hate to loose one of the best .

We have many wonderful memories of Auntie Rose. She was always kind-hearted, inviting, and enthusiastic about life. She and Uncle Ronald raised two marvelous children in Bonnie and Roland, who are our cousins and good friends. Every year, the highlight of our holidays would be to receive an invitation and attend the Soohoo Christmas party which was a festive event with good food. Auntie Rose will always live in our hearts and memories. From Dennis and Alice
Rosie was one of my mom's favorite friends. My mom, (Grace Chen)  loved hosting New Year's parties with her. One of my favorite memories was going to the Soohoo house when I was young and making baklava! We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Rosie. I know my mom will always keep her close in her heart.

I am so sorry Wes and I will not be able to make Auntie Rosie's memorial. Your mom played a big role in my life, I have fond memories of spending summers with you. Imagine, a city kid who got to ride horses, and swim all day. That glimpse into small-town life was such a treat, so idyllic. I remember going to town on those warm summer nights after dinner. We would head to the bookstore, and peruse the Nancy Drew books before going for ice cream at BR. After riding lessons we headed to donut shop in State Market for my fav, a milk bar and an icee. Listening to Nat King Cole, and taking Mandarin classes. Good times. The women of that family were tough, outspoken, candid, and forthright. The biggest difference between your mom and mine. Only one of them could cook and bake like nobody’s business! I loved watching her cook which included making potstickers from the Time-Life China cookbook and her famous birthday cake with the 7-minute frosting. I looked forward to spending Christmas at your home on Reed Dr., eating way too many of her delicious cookies with the red and green maraschino cherries, and who can forget her famous Baklava.

I will be with you in spirit and smiling, thinking about the reunion the 4 sisters and 2 brothers are probably having. Take care, and big hugs to all of you.

Shao Shia and I would like to offer our deepest condolences to Rosie’s family.  Rosie went to the same high school in San Francisco (Lowell) as my sister Maria and I.  On a more personal level, her first cousin is married to my first cousin.  I interacted more with her late husband Ron, whose interactions I remember with much affection and pleasure.  The memory of both is equally cherished by our Ling family.
