Ronald's obituary

Ronald Evans, 79, of Clarksburg, MD, passed away on April 03, 2023 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Ronald was born on December 13, 1943 and raised in Cumberland, Maryland by Chester and Jeanne Evans. He later attended Allegheny High School where he played football and baseball. He went on to play on the first football team at Frostburg State University where he majored in Education. Ron married his high school sweetheart, Scarlett Wilson in 1963. The two moved to Odenton, Maryland where they resided until 2007.

After graduating college, Ron landed his first job as a physical education teacher for Arundel High School where he served as assistant coach for both the football and track teams. His career later took off at Old Mill High School where he served as head football coach and later took over the track and field program. Mr. Evans taught weight-lifting and ran an after school lifting program which attracted hundreds of students. Mr. Evans was an incredible motivator and coach, recruiting many athletes from this program. He had an amazing eye for recognizing potential and talent in his athletes and coaching them to success. Mr. Evans leaves behind an impressive legacy, coaching more than 100 individual and 20 team state champions in Track and Field. During his time as coach he led the Patriots to 52 County, 47 regional, and 17 state championships, until retiring from coaching in 1996.  

 Mr. and Mrs. Evans relocated to Clarksburg, Maryland in 2007 to be closer to family. After retiring from teaching in 2000, Ron enjoyed golfing, woodworking, photography, and continued substitute teaching. Mr. Evans served as a substitute teacher at the local middle and high schools; Rocky Hill Middle School and Clarksburg High School. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 60 years Scarlett Evans,  a daughter, Rhonda Fenstermaker a son, Todd Evans and four grandchildren; Lauren Fenstermaker, Tanner Evans, Paige Evans, and Carly Evans. Mr. Evans is also survived by two sisters-- Susan Crone and Helen Wigfield.

A celebration of life will be held on June 10, 2023 at 12 noon at Cedarbrook Community Church 23700 Stringtown Road Clarksburg, Maryland 20871. To help us honor Ron and his coaching legacy, please consider wearing spirit wear from your alma mater or school of choice.
