I think about you, Dr. Russell, every Easter. It was great working with you as your nurse practitioner while at THD. I miss your contagious smile. Hope you are enjoying all the afterlife holds.

In August of 2017 I missed a step and tripped on steep cement stairs at the airport in Madrid, Spain on the way to walk to and clear customs and broke my ankle in 3 places. I had to fly back home to Dallas the next day. I was referred to the Carrell Clinic and Dr. Russell was my surgeon. He operated on my ankle on September 1, 2017. He was wonderful: the surgery, the after care, every office visit, the generous time he gave to me, my parents, and my boyfriend at the time to answer all of our questions and put us at ease, every answered question. I received the standard letter notifying us that Dr. Russell was leaving the Carrell Center. My ankle was in great shape so I never booked an appt with anyone after I finished physical therapy and did not book any follow up time with Dr. Russell in Plano/Frisco. I wish I had.

Today I had my first appointment for my ankle at the Carrell Center since my accident to ask questions about the possibilities of removing the metal in my ankle. I booked an appt with the Carrell Center to stay close to home and the office. After my appointment, I googled Dr. Russell to see where he was now and was saddened to see this news.

Condolences to Dr. Russell's family. So sorry for your loss. May his memory be for a blessing.

I just read about Dr Russell. It broke my heart and deeply saddened about this loss for his family and anyone who knew him.  I only seen Dr Russell a few times he cared about his patients.
All connects with Dr Russell were wonderful. I can’t understand how God can take all the good ones snd leave all the evil ones here. I miss him so much. Luckily he did such a good job with my two surgeries. I have not had any more trouble. No one can replace him!!!
I was so sad to hear of Dr. Russell’s passing. I was looking up his information to refer him to a friend.
Dr Russell did my hip surgery in 2017. The best Dr I ever had. So kind and passionate. Extremely knowledgeable and confident. Now I walk with no pain!
My husband and I were so impressed with him.
He had the light of Christ!
Dr. Russell was such a kind, understanding, gentle physician. Always a gentleman. It has been a year and I still wish he were my surgeon. He did so much for me - corrected a botched knee replacement. His skills allowed me to walk again without pain and without walker/cane. He gave me my active life back.

I am so sorry he went through such dark times. He deserved so much better.
We were so surprised and shocked to hear about Dr. Russell. He did knee surgery on me and two hip replacements on my wife while at the Carrell Clinic. We loved him dearly and thoroughly enjoyed seeing him on our visits. I did a pencil sketch of a young child on a rocking horse as a thank you for what he did for us. He was sharing an office with Dr. Hotchkiss at Carrell Clinic. Dr. Hotchkiss had one of my pencil drawings and used to tease him about not having one until I gave him one. He was special to us as I am sure he was to others.
What a real man he was, this man this surgeon made Me able to walk and work and serve multiple patients and help improve the quality of life for countless numbers of families Rest In Peace my brother
Dr. Russell operated on me several times on my hip I spent quite a few months in the hospital I become to know him rather well and to actually grew to love the man because he was such a great person.
The reason I'm writing this is because it's a rare thing to run across such gentle sweet spirit! James R Pierce
With great sorrow I just heard the news today December 27th 20/20
In response to "What always reminds you of Robert?"
I am so sad to find this out. I was actually trying to see where Dr. Russell might be working now. Last I knew he had moved to Plano. He did my reconstructive surgery on my knee six months after I had total knee replaced by another dr. In East Texas. I need my other knee replaced and wanted Dr. Russell to do it, so it was done right the first time. He was an awesome Dr. and my prayers are with his family.

I never met Dr. Russell, but his story compelled me to participate. My condolences go out to his family and friends. On Sep 1st I picked a 1mile loop around a small Lake and brought a friend to do as many laps as we had time for. We got 8 in. His story of making his “loop” was inspiring, so we picked our spot based on a similar story. Our prayers go out to everyone with Robert. God Bless everyone
I first met Dr. Russell on a referral- he tried everything to keep from replacing my hip- but that’s where we ended up in 2017. It was just before his second son was born—he was sooo proud of being a dad again. His expertise came from God- without a doubt. I saw him again for follow up in Plano after his move- one last time. We got to spend a few minutes discussing our Christian faith. His skills as a healer will be missed- and the loss of a son, dad, brother, husband—well -the Lord, in His timing, will Himself heal those...
May God Bless each of you.

My husband and I just found out the very sad and upsetting news. Your precious son, husband, father, brother and friend was so talented, kind, and a godsend for my husband. We are sending our heartfelt condolences. May God bless you all. ❤️
My condolences go out to Dr. Russell's family. He replaced my hip in 2016. I was looking to find out where he was so I could make my 4 year check up. I was very saddened to see the news. He was such a great doctor, and only having known him as a patient, I could still tell he was a great person. I once told him he reminded me of Dr. Kurt Rathjen, an orthopedic surgeon I used for decades before his passing. Dr. Russell explained everything in layman's terms, and never let you go until you had every question answered. I am sure he and Dr. Rathjen are "talking shop" in heaven today. I am truly one of the blessed to have known him, and had him replace my hip. I think about him every time I walk without pain. He told me at the time, I was borderline age to be getting a new hip. I told him that I would be living to 100, so he could do the second replacement before he retired! I can see from the pics below, my view of Dr. Russel was spot on. People loved him, and his family was his priority. I will pray for his wife and boys for God's comfort.
I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Russell replaced my left knee in July, 2019 and I never saw him again. I found out today that he passed away in April and I am in shock. He was so nice and patient with me and made me feel so comfortable with my surgery. I miss him dearly. His wife and children will be in my prayers.
I am so sad at the loss of Dr. Russell. Most of all the loss of their father for his sons. No one can ever replace their loss.
My deepest prayers to all of his family, friends, and patients.
May Dr. Russell Rest In Peace.
Please accept my love and condolences on your tremendous loss. I am grateful I had the chance to communicate with Dr. Russell in November to express my gratitude to him. Without his surgery I would not be able to walk without assistance. I will always remember his kindness, gentleness and caring ways.
