As a basketball coach Rob was gentlemanly and taught his players very well.  For about 6 years (1981-87) I assigned officials to SMYBA games.

Rob was a great mentor and role model for a lot of athletes on the Peninsula. I was lucky enough to play for him in San Mateo Babe Ruth. When I think of Rob, the first word that comes to mind is integrity. He did things the right way. I joined the California Coaching Association because of him and always looked forward to those typed out paper membership cards he use to send! He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Coach's passing. He was such a funny guy who loved sports just like me...especially basketball. My son just finished his 10th JV basketball season at El Camino which is the same grade when Coach Grialou coached me. 2 things that will forever remind me of Coach Grialou... During P.E, he once told me about an 8th grade basketball player named Jason Kidd who he said was gonna be one of the best players to come out of the bay area. Since I heard that name, I followed Jason Kidd throughout his Hall of Fame career and he's still one of my all time favorites. I'll always remember he told me first!!  The second thing I'll always remember when he coached that he would yell out  "Walk" if he thought a player traveled with the ball. The referees would always blow their whistle after they got that cue! LOL. To this day, I do the very same thing at all of my sons' games or any basketball game I attend!  Thinking about the entire Grialou family during this time and all of us are thankful for Coach Grialou!

We were lucky to meet Rob and Sue through our sons Steve and Sean at the University of Michigan connection.   What a wonderful family the Grialou’s are.  May Rob rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of Rob's passing. I love seeing the theme for the Celebration of Life though--Rob would have loved the sports jersey theme! The pictures above are fantastic and show how sports were so core to the years of his life, which I can fully relate to. I'll always remember Rob showing our family around SF on our first trip to the Bay, the Summer I spent living with the Grialou family, Rob drinking his small glass of wine with dinner...and also how he'd come in the kitchen and close every open drawer and cupboard before sitting down! While saddened by his passing, it's a great moment to reflect upon the full life he lived and the contributions to the next generations he made along the way.

These pictures are amazing. I was only fortunate to know "Steve's dad" for a few years, but every encounter I had with him was pure joy. I look forward to celebrating his amazing life with friends and family.
Bob was a tremendous supporter of CCA, exemplary professional and sincere friend.
One of the top 3 most positively influential men in my lifetime. A true father figure
I’ve known Rob since I was a teenager. My dad was the Principal of Southwood Junior HS (the Savages- not politically correct today) and he hired Rob as a teacher and coach. Later, Rob and I taught together at El Camino HS. Still later, he worked for me when I was Principal of the Adult School.  Rob was a dedicated teacher and coach who had an easy way with students and yet a competitive spirit with athletes. He had an upbeat attitude and great sense of humor. Rob gave of himself, whether it was organizing the football pool for the School District, serving as an administrator for the coaches association, or coaching little league. My condolences to Sue and the Family.
Mr. Grialou was my PE teacher at Southwood Jr. High when I was in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade.  When I graduated from 9th grade, Southwood was set to close so the next 9th graders and Mr. Grialou went with us to El Camino High School the following school year.  Mr. Grialou was a very special teacher who taught us more than just PE.  His passion for teaching and great sense of humor are very much remembered.  He is sure to be missed.  My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
