Bob's obituary
On Sunday, May 9, 2022, Robert “Bob” L. Burgess passed away at the age of 86 at West Broward Rehabilitation and Healthcare from complications related to diabetes and heart disease.
He leaves his wife Patricia; his two daughters, Kelly Burgess and husband Michael Boone, and Lisa Burgess Engelhard and husband James; his son-in-law Wazir Ali; his sisters Elaine Thompson, Brenda White and husband Lorenzo, and Delores Alexander and husband Charles; and 9 nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Samuel, his mother, Estelle; his daughter Robin Elaine Burgess-Ali; and his daughter Stacey Eileen.
Bob was born on September 4, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA. Raised in Plainfield, NJ. Graduated from Plainfield High School in 1953, attended and ran track at Villanova University, received a B.S. in Business Administration from Rutgers University. On June 23, 1958, he married Patricia Ann Burgess (Boyd). They raised four daughters, Robin, Kelly, Lisa and Stacey. Bob served in the Army Finance Corp in Korea 1958, joined GTE International in 1964 as an Accountant in New York City. He took the opportunity as an Accountant with GTE Trinidad, West Indies. Forty years later, after extensive global travel, three international moves, numerous awards, and accolades for his contributions to the businesses and the communities in which they operated, Bob retired from GTE Sylvania, as General Manager, Central America and Panama.
Bob had a passion for tennis, squash, racquet ball and later in life golf. He was an avid NBA and NFL fan. After retirement he took on the position of Senior Warden at St. Bernard de Clairvaux, and volunteered for and mentored students in the Police Athletic League (PAL) Miami Beach. He was known for his gregarious personality, sense of adventure, competitiveness, and joie de vivre.
A memorial to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at St. Bernard de Clairvaux, 16711 W Dixie Hwy, North Miami Beach, FL 33160 on May 19th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Bernard de Clairvaux in Robert “Bob” Burgess name.
