Rickey's obituary
Rickey Lee Wood
February 7, 1965 – March 6, 2025
Rickey Lee Wood, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on March 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, strength, and love. Born on February 7, 1965, in Munich, Germany, Rick was raised in Norton, Virginia, where he developed his lifelong love for family, food, music, and fun.
Rick proudly served his country as a dedicated soldier in the United States Army. After his military service, he pursued his entrepreneurial passion by owning and operating a pizza restaurant, an early testament to his love for feeding others and bringing people together. His service extended beyond the military and business, as he later worked in Iraq with Halliburton KBR and in Afghanistan with Fluor, providing essential logistic support in both regions. A certified Level 6 Water Specialist, Rick brought critical expertise to his roles, ensuring vital resources and systems functioned in some of the world's toughest environments.
For the past 13 years, he was employed with McLane Company Inc., where he continued to exemplify his strong work ethic and dedication.
Rick’s life was defined by his deep love for his family, especially his sons. He is survived by his children: Matthew E. Wood, Denver H. Wood, Christian T. Wood, and Brandon L. Wood. He was the proud grandfather of Evan Wood, Julius Wood, and eagerly awaited the arrival of his next grandson, Leo Wood, expected in July 2025.
He is also survived by his cherished siblings: Rocky Wood, Rebecca Wood, and Ruby Yakalavich (Wood). Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Kim Wood, and his nephew, Rocky Lee Allen Wood Jr.
Rick’s sharp wit and sense of humor were unmatched. A natural comedian and prankster, he was always ready to pull a trick, tell a joke, or light up a room with laughter. He had a deep love for country music and was known for singing George Strait songs any chance he got. His favorite foods included king crab, snow crab, and bulgogi, a reflection of his passion for good eating. Rick also loved fishing, cooking, and being surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed playing darts, backgammon, and cards, where his competitive spirit and humor always made the games even more entertaining.
Rick, your spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you. Your memory will forever bring warmth and smiles to all who were blessed to share life with you.
You are deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
