Richard's obituary

Richard Ellwood Wittig, age 84, of Port Ludlow, Washington passed away peacefully and surrounded by family after a brief pulmonary illness Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington. He was born in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania to Emma Mary (Washburn) and Robert Benson Wittig. He graduated from Springfield High school in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, class of 1952. He earned an undergraduate degree from Drexel University in 1957 where he was active in the Theta Chi Fraternity and an MBA, also from Drexel, in 1968. He served in the US Army Active Reserves in 1958 and again in 1961-62. He spent 30 years working at Glidden Paint with the last 12 years as General Manager in San Francisco. While living in San Francisco he was a member of the Olympic Club for 33 years, and did consulting work as well as teaching at San Francisco State University Business School. He was involved in boy scouts, youth soccer, and served as President of the Board for the San Francisco Boys Chorus. He attended the First Baptist Church of San Mateo. Dick, as he was known, also enjoyed camping in national parks, especially Yosemite. He finished his business career managing Preservative Paint Company in Seattle. He retired to Port Ludlow where he was involved in public service, joined an RV club, and held season opera tickets. He enjoyed swimming, golf, church, and family time. He was a member of the Port Ludlow Community Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sally, brothers Robert and Jeffrey, and cousin Roxanna. He is survived by his son Richard, daughter Christie, brother Joseph, step-brother and step-sister Willard and Sandra Johns, daughter-in-law Veronica, son-in-law Aaron, four grandchildren, and the entire Reece family.
Burial is planned for: Friday, October, 12th at 1:00 PM at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo (next to his wife Sally)
Celebration of life services are being planned for:
Sunday, October 14th at 10 AM in San Francisco, please speak with family if interested in attending
Saturday, October 27th at 11AM at Port Ludlow Community Church
