I lived in the same neighborhood as Richard and Deloris. I was trying to make a little extra money on the side mowing yards and doing what ever Richard and Deloris needed help with. Richard would always thank me for helping them. Deloris and Richard are the hardest working people I have ever met. I remember one day I had to tell Deloris that she is not allowed outside until I say so. Well that didn't go over to well...and remember she was the boss writing the check. I continued to work with them both. I became attached to them like family. Deloris worked at the local clinic and I worked for a durable medical equipment company so there were times I would also help her with some of the medical equipment she had. I enjoyed helping out where I could and was sad I had to leave town and would no longer be able to help them. I would from time to time come back and as you would have guessed it.... the grass was greener than ever. And to think Deloris could not have done it without me.... boy was I wrong. I really wish I could have made it down today. I miss you both and think of you all the time. Take care.
Richard "hired" me to do "cold calls" to set up appointments for him when he sold insurance in Manhattan. Richard was easy to talk to and helped me work on my professionalism with individuals that were not so friendly, receiving calls in the evening. This was before caller ID and I was just going down a list of phone numbers. Oh, Richard! I am grateful for all that I learned during these calls. He was a mentor to me at that time, and to my dad through Covenant Church.
Richard was responsible for getting me my first job at Kansas State University, soon after I graduated. I had applied for a Clerk Typist position in the same dept that Richard worked in. In those days, this was the type of position normally filled by females. Dr. Norton, the Dept Chair, expressed doubts about filling this opening with a man. However, just as I was leaving the interview with Dr. Norton, Richard came into the outer office and greeted me. Dr. Norton asked how Richard knew me, and was told that we attended the same church. Because Dr. Norton had such a high opinion of Richard, he hired me for the job! I ended up working at KSU for five years (though not always in that same dept). I will always be grateful for Richard's recommendation that started my post-college career! -- Jim Willis

I will never forget Richards tour of the Bull Barn at K State in Manhattan, Kansas - he had a lot of fun embarrassing Carolyn. Lots of laughs and education
It was an honor to know Richard, a special friend. I would of loved to come but our annual Man Up Conference is all day on the 19th - much love to the family and his many friends. Monty
Richard was a special Brother in Law. He was always smiling and happy. He treated me very well and I know why. I had a red headed sister and he didn't want me saying anything bad about him to her. It would not have done any good She wouldn't have listened to me anyway. She was as smitten as he was.
He and Deloris helped Sally and I move from Seattle to Sturgis in 1962. They came to Seattle and we all p0acked up our house and then we attended the Seattle Worlds Fair together before we left for the drive to Sturgis.
Not many families are as fortunate as Deloris's family. Richard was an excellent Brother in Law and Friend to our family. He always treated our parents with respect and that doesn't happen too much today. He will be missed.

Richard & Deloris were our first visitors after we brought our daughter, Katherine Deloris Davison home from the hospital. I don’t know who said this - Richard or Deloris- but their words of wisdom were, “Every cow likes her own calf best!” It took me a while to get that, but I found it such a truth.
