Richard Thomas Grossheider
Born to Earth: June 4, 1926 in St. Louis, MO
Born to Heaven: September 1, 2025 in Orland Park, IL
Last surviving son of August and Elizabeth Grossheider. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Son Michael, grandson Derek, brothers Edward, John and Roger. Richard Joined the Navy the day after graduating from High School, serving as a sonar operator on the submarine "USS Scabbardfish". He Graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
He had 8 children with Nancy Sue French: Michael, Paul (Debbie), Richard (Connie), Thomas (Pam), Daniel (Debbie), Mark, Laura and Andrew (Teresa); 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and leaves behind a loving companion Alice Mann.
He was a lifelong learner and had a voracious curiosity. If anything sparked his interest, he learned everything he could about it. Richard took great joy in creating hand-tooled leather items and wood-carved and chip carved pieces which he would gift to others.
Other hobbies included music (Pink Floyd to Classical), golfing, reading, nature study, mathematics, astronomy, travelling, ham radio, electronics, history, bonsai plants, cooking, and innumerable crafts.
Richard was a kind, loving, caring and generous man. He loved his children and was always there for whatever they needed. He was a good father and loyal friend.
