Ronnie's obituary

Rhona Reisa Scullion (1954–2025)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rhona Reisa Scullion, known to her friends as Ronnie, 71, of LaHave, Nova Scotia, on November 13, 2025 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Montreal, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Hannah (Epstein) Scullion.

Ronnie was a beloved force of creativity, passion, and unwavering spirit. Her remarkable legacy continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A fiercely independent woman, Ronnie’s determination and drive were matched only by her boundless ingenuity. She graduated from NSCAD University in 1980 alongside the late Dishes, her faithful canine companion and longtime artistic collaborator.

Ronnie was a visionary who left an indelible mark on the world. She founded and nurtured Artech Camps, a unique children’s program that blended artistic development with cutting-edge technological education, touching the lives of countless young people across Canada. Her innovative approach and commitment to inspire others through art and imagination continues to resonate.

A woman of incredible wit and wonderfully quirky sense of humour, Ronnie’s sharp observations and clever quips were always Spot on. Her kindness, empathy, and unconditional love for those around her were evident to all who knew her. Ronnie’s capacity to care deeply for others, coupled with her natural ability to inspire and challenge, made her a cherished friend, mentor, and mother.

Above all, Ronnie’s love for animals was profound. She once wrote, ‘I like the sound of a dog barking’—on February 13, 1962—a sound that would bring her many years of joy through a string of well-loved dogs: Mickey, Shadow, Dishes, Rosie, Lazlo, Brian, Petunia, Jumbo, Lincoln, Honey, and Pedro (to name just a few). Her deep compassion for all creatures lives on in the hearts of those who witnessed it.

Ronnie will be deeply missed by her children: Misha, Markus, and Ada; her brother, Jack (California), and her sister, Beverley Moscovitch (Montreal). She is also survived by her cherished fur family: dogs Honey and Pedro, and feline companions Mary Lou, Amadeus, and Kiwi.

In keeping with Ronnie's wishes, there will be no public memorial service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to ElderDog Canada (https://elderdog.ca/donate/)
