Olpin Family my sincere condolences. Loosing a loved one is never easy and dealing with death is never easy. Death is an enemy to us all, taking away our most beloved ones. In John 11:11 death is compared to a peaceful sleep and just like we all awaken from sleeping, Jehovah God will wake Rex up from death. Acts 24:15 Jehovah God offers us the hope of the resurrection. May this hope help you endure till you see Rex again.
Rex was my second manager at Intel and was always the soft spoken guy that would tell you "how would you fix it?" and then just let the wheels turn. However, there was always a smile for he knew how to guide you to where you should be. Rex was a mentor, a confidant, a friend, but was also like family in our little support world. Sometimes, work was more chaotic (like the old movie: daddy day care), but somehow Rex had the Zen to see through the chaos and find the jewel. I bet he is looking at us saying, I've done my part, now go find your jewel, your glowing ember in the night.
I remember our boys Ben and Daniel were on the same baseball team back in the day for Folsom National League. I would sit next to Rex at almost every game and we would talk about everything and of course yell at the umpires - well Rex didn't - it was all me. My heart goes out to Ruth and the entire Olpin family.

It is very difficult to comprehend life in such sad occurrences. Finding words that are meaningful, are like trying to find the one granule of sand that distinguishes itself from others in the dessert. Rex was certainly a man of integrity and it was pleasure to have worked with him. He will be missed by many. My family and I pray for him and his loved ones.

Rex & I headed for a quick traditional Mexican dinner and ended up with these huge desserts! Nothing was wasted.
Rex was a fantastic colleague and an asset to every team he was part of. Smart, inventive & expert of his domain ; he brought his very best to work every day. He was always willing to lend a hand with a ready smile, and a positive Can Do attitude. He could turn the team's mood and morale around with his quick wit and collaborative spirit. The outpouring of grief at Intel accompanied by beautiful and touching messages at his passing has been deeply moving. He will be missed every day....work will not be the same again.

My heartfelt condolences to Ruth & Family.

Mount Shasta June 2020
We have had many inspiring experiences hiking summer and winter with Rex, friends and our sons at Yosemite, Pyramid Peak and Ralston Peak. Just last month I was able to be with Rex on his last hike up Shasta. It was one of the best times ever. As we started at 2 AM the moon was so full and beautiful we didn't even need headlamps. As we crested a high ridge we enjoyed the beauty of Gods creations and then watched the sunrise. Rex said that the warm sun on his face piercing the cold felt like the spirit filling his body. Rex thank you for the wonderful times among Gods great creations. We love you and it won't be the same until we can hike together again upon high.

Words cannot adequately express the sorrow I feel for your family at this time. The pain of such a sudden loss is searing and leaves a gaping hole. Rex was a man of such high integrity and caring. It was a privilege to work for him and he will be sorely missed. My family and I are praying for you as you navigate this loss.
Rex was simply the best business stakeholder I've had the pleasure to work with at Intel -- his motto always was "We are One Team". And he always made us feel like we were one family.

He was a pioneer in so many ways -- he was instrumental in moving customer support from SAP to Salesforce and the first to use Agile methodology in our organization. Visionary, curious, funny and kind all at the same time. Rex has left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
RIP, Rex, you will be sorely missed.

My heartfelt condolences to the family.
Ruth I am so sorry for your loss and sadness at this time. I know your deep faith in Christ and or Heavenly Fathers plan will comfort you through this time and through the years. Much love and prayers.

Ruth, I loved spending time with you and Rex in your home. His smoked turkey dinner was the best Thanksgiving feast I have ever had. Love you, Vicki Wolf
Ruth and family, My sincere condolences to you for your loss. As you know, I hired Rex over 20 years ago and it was one of my best decisions ever. He cared about the people as much as he cared about the work, but he made sure everyone knew that he cared about his family most and gave back to his community, which made him an Intel role model. He especially enjoyed working with people from all over the world as he had an adventuresome spirit and love of all cultures. At work, he was fearless and a big thinker and if Rex said it would get done, you could count on it. Rex actually implemented the very first SMG pilot of salesforce service cloud more than a decade ago and now thousands use it. He was a caring, thoughtful, and funny friend to many. I miss him already. From a day to day work perspective, I’ll miss seeing his big whiteboard with tons of words and arrows and pictures which is how he always did his strategic thinking and planning. I’ll miss laughing at his wisecracks; you knew you’d arrived at being his friend when you were the object of one his wisecracks. I’ll miss his keen analytical mind and the way he pushed to ensure we thought through multiple perspectives, which helped us all find the best solutions to problems. I’ll miss our team chauffeur as he graciously always volunteered to drive the team to events in his big Suburban; and he put up with me when I always ungraciously told him he drove too fast! One of my favorite memories was watching him volunteer to “perform” during a comedy improv act; he was willing to be spontaneous. And, while I’m shocked and sad at the spontaneous way in which he left us and struggle to see the meaning, I plan to remember the small and simple ways Rex made a difference to us and trust that he’s continuing to make a difference where he is now. Rex sure made life better and I'm comforted knowing he will be yours forever. May God and his Spirit give you comfort and peace during your grief. Love Always, Lisa
Dear Ruth and family,
Our hearts go out to all of you today. It's so hard to imagine Rex being gone from this life. He was so full of life! How grateful we are to know that families are eternal.
Please know of our love and support to all of you. Your family life is what the rest of us aspire to have. Thanks for your many examples of how to live well and how to love.
Much love,
Eben and Kathy Visher
Dear Ruth, Erin, Ben, Richard, and James,
Please accept our sincere condolences. Your husband and father is a great example of so many virtues. How we will miss seeing him!
As we remember your contributions of time and talent to our alto section, cello section, and trombone section, we know Rex was supportive and proud of you in all of your musical endeavors. On top of everything, getting to know you as friends has been the best! We love you all. We will miss Rex. Be comforted by a loving Savior, dear family and friends, happy memories, and beautiful music.

My sincere condolences to the Olpin family. I took for granted seeing Rex in the Folsom cafe, crossing paths in the halls, or sharing a trip to OR on the shuttle for so many years. Reading the personal memories and stories posted here, I realize there are so many things that I didn't know about Rex. I wish I had more of those shuttle trips to talk about football and travel and so many other things. We'll miss you Rex.
My heartfelt condolences to Rex and his family. He spoke fondly and lovingly of his children and incoming grandchildren. He was consistently the bright light in the room, glass half full and with a positive end game in sight. Like many of our Intel colleagues, I too had the privilege of traveling abroad with Rex, a physical presence in Asia, we laughed about so many things, he will be missed.
