I will always enjoy my fond memories of spending time with Ralph and his family. I will miss his friendship.

I first met Ralph at an IABA function at the San Remo restaurant. We learned we were Paisanos (from same area in Italy) and even shared political leanings. That was all it took to remain friends for decades. There were so much fun and laughter at Italian events, lunches, and golf outings, but there were also discussions about the important things in life. He was so proud of his entire family, and especially Linda and his daughters, Kali and Katrina. I will miss Ralph and will always be grateful for his friendship. My deepest condolences to all his family and friends.

Dear Linda,
I was surprised and saddened to learn of Ralph's death. He was a great guy who loved life and was always upbeat and positive. Judy and I are keeping you and all your family in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.------ Dudley Oldham

I loved seeing Ralph's smiling face, listening to his banter and watching him recall random data from his vault of knowledge, being with him hiking somewhere / anywhere, and hearing him speak his Italian at a moment's notice. Listening to music with Ralph was a very special joy and time for both of us - except for his singing (?!). We knew each other back in the MD days, then again in CA and plenty of special times with Ron G. Now, each morning, my doppio espresso is a celebration and salute to Ralph, "Aah, you'll like this one bud". I can see his hands warmly wrapped around the cup and hear his words, "caffe magnifico, grazie". Ti amo amico.

Ralph was the definition of a best friend. He could be counted on in any situation. His infectious smile and sense of humor made me feel genuinely lucky I had met such a friend. He loved life his family and all his friends. When he left for Frostburg State college I was sad but I knew he was on his way to be the successful man he became. He worked hard at everything I saw him do. Starting at Montgomery Wards in Wheaton Plaza. He took pride in all his endeavors. When his journey took him to California again I was sad to see him go ,but happy for him knowing wherever he landed would make it a better place. I admired him and loved him like a brother. When he met Linda the love of his life I knew he was where he was meant to be. The distance became a problem for staying in touch like we should have wanted. I had the honor to introduce him to Ron Garfield another best friend of mine and naturally they became the same. Their journey together was another story book tale of travel and events too many to share by me. I’m sure Ron will share their lives and adventures including Winter Olympics at Sarajevo skiing into somewhere they shouldn’t have been. Only those two guys could talk their way out of that one. I could go on but we all know that Ralph Angelo Zappala (Daddy) was loved by all that knew him. Ralph made this world a better place and I was lucky to be his friend. My condolences to all his family and friends. I loved you man. Sincerely, Jeff Pusateri

Ralph was one of those rare, always smiling, positive people who make LIFE more enjoyable, fun and interesting. I always looked forward to seeing him at various lawyer gatherings and learn of his latest travels and experiences. He lived a full life and he was generous to share those experiences and his good nature with the rest of us.

I called Ralph my cancer buddy. I got introduced to him by mutual acquaintances two years ago after I also got a stage IV lung cancer diagnosis. Ralph gave me hope, and he was real. We would meet for coffee every couple of months to catch up. I could talk to Ralph about what was going on with my latest treatment or side effect, and I knew that he “got it“. I will miss those talks. I admired Ralph’s compassion, his love for his family, his down to earth nature, his drive and his spirituality. Although I only knew Ralph for two years, the impact that he had on me will remain with me forever. My sincere condolences to Linda, Katrina, and Kali. I am heartbroken for your loss. Keeping you in my prayers.

A well deserved dinner after completing the Sellaronda (26 mi ski run around a mountain). He couldn’t wait to dive into this incredible meal! ❤️
