Mom and dad,
Even as an agent of God, that I am, sometimes I just do not understand why things like this happen. I have been reflecting on this loss as I continue working in the emergency room, even last night. I must have spoken to Raice 4 or 5 times lasts night while seeing patients, here in California.
I will say this much… Raice was a tremendous soul and worked hard in the emergency room, and was just so full of life—he was on auto-pilot. I will miss him both as colleague, as a friend, and even as a son. He came to my defense, he laughed, we spoke about girls and life, and he was desperately needed in the emergency room, to help render good healthcare to folks, with a smile. I knew nothing about any shadows, but only wish I had, Perhaps, a hug or talk with him could have changed things—we often spoke about life… not just medicine. As a father, on Father’s Day to you Dad, a big hug and only hope you can find solace at this most difficult time. In Jesus name, I hope to see him again, and hope to see the two of you again to give you a big hug.
With tremendous respect and love for Raice,
Joe Nieto MD

Dear Nelson family,
Raice and our family have been neighbors for over 5 years. This loss was a total shock to us and leaves a hole in the hearts of family, friends and neighbors. He was always next door with a smile… whether it was a helping hand, Home Depot run, a quick hello or conversation or even sharing a drink at our 3 year olds birthday party last year. Always a smile! You will always be missed Raice, but never forgotten! With love, Your friends and neighbors Justin & Bri Metz.
