We were all so sad to hear this tragic news. I have bonded with him during overnights and appreciated his hard work, kindness, and humor. He is one of the most outstanding EM providers I have ever encountered. Lots of love, Frank

So sad to hear this. Raice was always a light in the room and out worked every one. Such a joy to coach and be around. My condolences to Rick, Katey, Chance, and family.

Raice was a bright light, a hard worker, and a compassionate practitioner. He always kept the vibe in the ER positive and fun, deflecting negativity and maintaining a non-judgmental attitude toward patients and coworkers alike. He complimented people, poked fun lightheartedly, engaged in mischief, and played an amazing selection of music on his little Bose speaker - graciously entertaining requests from all of us to play what we wanted to hear that night. When I told him I didn’t like country music, he gave me an Alabama CD and encouraged me to give it a chance.
He listened patiently when someone was having a hard time at home or at work and needed to vent, and always had something supportive - or funny and distracting - to say in response. His arrival in the ER was always greeted by someone announcing, "Raice is here!" in a high-pitched voice.
Raice was talented, smart, and never passed up the opportunity to challenge himself by performing an intubation, a central line insertion, or a chest tube placement under the supervision of the attending physician. In those times, he became serious and intense, exacting in his professional standards. He led by example in balancing professionalism and productivity with fun, friendship, collegiality, and humility.
If I had to sum up Raice Nelson in a few words, I would say he was simultaneously a playful boy and an old soul wrapped up in a ray of sunshine. He will forever be golden in the memories of those who knew him, and in that way he lives on.

Raice would always make challenging shifts fun. His kind heart and spirit were a calming force, his patient care excellent. I am both grateful and fortunate to have had the opportunity to work along side him. He provided thousands of patients the highest level of clinical and compassionate care leaving quite a legacy. God bless the Nelson family.

I have been working with Raice in the ER for 4 years. I always looked forward talking with him about life and whatever the current event was. Smart and always a laugh, kept the mood light and was a great clinician. We at AZ General will miss him.
Personally, I will miss him daily.
Rest In Peace,

I was tremendously fortunate to start working with Raice since mid 2020. His smile and that laugh … that guffaw… was the glue for the nightshift from Monday-Thursday. Know that there are a tremendous amount of people he has worked with that are thinking of you and keeping his memory alive.
With our deepest condolences - Paul McHale & Family.
