Today marks the 100th day since my dad’s passing. Our family gathered together and visited him at the cemetery.
I want to share a small story that has been on my mind. When I was in 7th grade, I dreaded the 800-meter test we had to run at school. Dad taught me a simple trick: “in, in, out, out — focus and control your breath.” It worked like magic. Suddenly, I could run with ease, and I even became good at the 800 meters.
Now, whenever I exercise or meditate, I think of Dad. How did he know this back then, in a time and place in China where meditation wasn’t even a common idea?
Dad, I miss you. I know there will always be moments that bring you back to me — when I pass a fellow pedestrian, when I watch the sunset, when I pause to breathe. You will always be with me
