Phyllis's obituary

Phyllis Ann Manis Watson was born Sept 27, 1954 in Rogersville, TN to Betty Jewel Gibson and Hugh “Gene” Manis. Phyllis most recently resided in Polo, IL but called Cedar Lake and Lake Dale, IN home for 43 years. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brothers Don Manis and Terry Gibson, step-mother Joyce Manis, step-brothers Eugen Eubanks ,Dan Newberry, David Newberry, and Herb Bradley, daughter Stephanie Kuzlik, son Scot (Crystal) Watson, grandchildren Shain Watson, Cole Watson, and Victoria “Tori” Kuzlik, as well as 3 aunts and numerous cousins. Phyllis passed away at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore IL on May 18, 2018 surrounded by her daughter, son, lifelong friend Sheri, and family friend Erica.
Phyllis lived a life of service to her family and friends. She utilized her administrative talents to assist her long-time companion George Bourrell with his Heating and Air Conditioning business for many years. Phyllis had a huge heart for others and loved to be of assistance to people and her community. She served in many capacities including Room Mom, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, care-giver for her own mother, and general “helper” for countless others. The hardest part of her illness was her inability to help others the way she desired.
Phyllis was also a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2529 Auxiliary and carried with her many memories from her time of service there, and she cherished the many friendship made during that time. She greatly enjoyed her view of the lake and the activity of the birds and squirrels outside her window. Phyllis was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables for most of her life and enthusiastic collector of all types and sizes of elephants – her collection exceeded 300. Her greatest pleasures, though, were her kids and grandkids or “Grammy’s Angels” as she called them.
A memorial celebration will be held at the Eagles Club in Cedar Lake, IN on June 10, 2018 starting at 1:00pm. The Phyllis A Watson Memorial fund has been established for those wishing to contribute at Blackhawk Area Credit Union, 201 E Dixon St., Polo, IL 61064
