Phillip Sweet: Brother, cousin and friend.
Phil, his sister Sandra and I are all grandchildren of Mr. & Mrs. George Sweet. Our births occurred prior to and during the start of WWII. The three of us were inseparable for the first four years of Sandraβs and my life. We spent at least five days a week being cared for by grandparents, nanas, and each other's mothers. Since Phil was three years older than Sandra and me; he was sort of the leader of the pack. Phil had the overwhelming urge to climb into kitchen cupboards and Sandra, and I were found guilty by association. The years passed and family separations never allowed us to live close by again. However, I always cherished the times that I was able to spend with my older, cooler cousin. Phil was an authority, by my standards when it came to knowledge of girls. I took advantage of that and as a byproduct I learned how to cut and comb my hair.
The years continued to pass, and Phil and I shared annual birthday greetings, since we were both born on November 11th; although three years apart. Phone calls between the two of us, increased during college football season as we both cheered for Notre Dame, since our grandfather, George Sweet had attended there. I will miss the calls and the infrequent meetings with Phil and Janice. However, that will be far overshadowed by the joy of sharing that heavenly eternity with them, afforded by the love, grace and sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I am so sorry to have read about Phillip Sweet and his homecoming to live with Jesus. May the family and those who knew Phillip find comfort and love in the many ways that music influences the younger generation.Β

My sympathy and prayers for comfort go out for each person close to Mr. Sweet who grieve his loss. But, I also extend gratitude for the hope that we can see our loved ones again one day, in God's time and by His grace. I'm grateful for the faith of the sweet family as it had a distinct and lasting impact on mine.

There are no words, but why should there be. Love needs no words. The legacy of Phil's love is forever eternal. The flame of his life will never be dim, it will live on in all his loved ones. May God Bless the Sweet Family.

Papa Sweet was a loving man of the Lord.Β
He loved his family and loved ones and his close friends. He was the quiet one behind the scene when his sons took on their calling, but Papa Sweet was with them all way till his last breath.Β
He was a wonderful man of God and he was a good husband towards Mama Sweet.Β
He had a heart of gold and was gentle and kind to strangers. His discernment from the Holy Spirit was always strong, too.
Hope to see you in heaven Papa Sweet. Until then; just tell Jesus to keep looking over All of us.
To the Sweet family keep pushing forward and just know that people are praying for the family.

I'm so sorry for all of your loss.Β I never met Phil, although I spoke to him on the phone once.Β I've heard countless stories about him and never a negative thought, ever.Β Everyone that knew him is very fortunate to have a man like this in their lives.Β Although a loss of this magnitude hurts, the memories is what keeps his spirit alive and well, and puts smiles on everyone's face that knew him.Β We will see him again.

I was heartbrokern when I heard the news of Philip's passing.Β Through my work with Stryper and friendship with Janice over the years, I feel like he was a Dad to many of us!Β His love of family, the gift of music he shared with all of them and the legacy of faith he leaves behind I hope comforts the entire Sweet family.Β My prayers are with all of you.Β Β
