As so many others on my timeline, I was shocked and sad to learn the news of Peter Beckers passing over the weekend. Peter was an absolute legend, there really is no better word to describe him. He will be missed by so many.

So many of us local DJs in LA and SF owe just about everything we got out of the scene to Peter and the opportunities he gave us to play at his legendary Spundae parties. There is an army of people in LA that consider the Spundae@Circus era some of the best times of our lives. So many of my most important friendships I have today were forged during the Spundae era that Peter built. Peter & Guiv were pioneers of the West Coast International club scene, bringing in all the Superstar DJs from around the world long before they were Superstars. But somehow Spundae parties still managed to be all about the local DJs. Peter empowered all the locals unlike any other promoters in LA. So many of us are forever indebted to him for that.

Peter was one of the very few people that could peer pressure me into taking a shot. It was impossible to say no to a drink from Peter, no matter what your condition might be at the time. He always seemed to pull out another long strip of drink tickets. He loved nothing more than to coerce his friends into another drink.

Since he moved to Vegas our good times together became fewer and further in between. But in looking at our "Facebook friendship" for what pictures we may have together, I noticed that he continued to come to my timeline every single year and wish me a happy birthday. Peter loved to help people celebrate their birthdays, and having all of us local DJs feel special at Spundae on those nights. They were without a doubt some of the best birthdays I will ever have.

This picture kind of sums up Peter in front of the camera. Never really wanting to be in the pictures, yet everyone wanted to take one with him. He was always lurking in the back making some crazy face or covering his altogether.

I first met Peter in 1996 together with Guiv and my bro Kelly...he was an European in love with San Fran, just like me... despite we were young and part of the club scene, he always showed to be a real, humble and very honest friend... I have the best memories of him and I am very proud to have met him during my long stay in SF ❤

Peter was smart, clever, driven, loving, caring and nurturing but his humility will always stand out to me. I instantly admired him and to this day there is no one who’s council and opinion meant more to me. I wanted to be more like him. I will miss him every day.

I’ve never met anyone who I felt so closely believed in living life the same way I do. For me, there is no greater compliment I could give than asking him and Lisa to raise my children if something happened to me.
The day I went to ask them if they would be willing to do that for me, I was so nervous. I’m not comfortable asking someone to take on such a burden and I knew Peter wouldn’t make it easy on me if he knew I was nervous.
I started by letting them know I wasn’t there to borrow money… Lisa without missing a beat said, “I told you”.
I had all the paperwork, my financial documents and my notes for the speech I had been practicing. I start and less than a minute in, he interrupts me. “Wait…. If I say yes, you have to call me the god father, right?” I shake my head yes... he leans back in his chair and says, straight faced with his thick accent, “ I am the god father”..

Aside from being a great human, a king among men, you did something that few others that have walked the earth have accomplished - you and Guiv Naimi created perfection. Those early years of Spundae were magical, as good as it gets in the music scene across all time. That is your legacy. We will miss you.
