It was an honor to have known and worked with Paul. He was so talented and such a great worker. I knew I could always depend on him and he never let me or FNMOC down, ever.

He was well known around the country and around the world for his wave modeling expertise. He was sought out by many and highly respected by all. His passing is a tremendous loss to the Navy and the international wave modeling community. He is really going to be missed.

And, of course, Paul was a friend and a fellow surfer. And we also had the common experience of working as lifeguards when we were in college; Paul in New Jersey and me in Florida. So that experience was something we also bonded over.

He was just the greatest guy! So talented in so many areas, yet so kind, gentle and humble.

I'm really missing you Paul.

I knew Paul when he was a graduate student back in Raleigh, and I always thought of Paul as a gentle giant. He was as non-confrontational as anyone I've ever known. We were playing basketball one day when we noticed a kid being picked on by a much larger guy on a neighboring court. When it looked like things were coming to blows, Paul stopped the game and went over to defend the smaller kid. I don't think he even knew him, but it was clear Paul was not going to let this continue. The bully immediately backed off and left the court. This was the one and only time I ever saw Paul ready to fight someone, and it was to defend someone unable to defend them self.

Paul is married to my sister Aletha. I remember when My father was very sick and how Paul would come to the house and tend to their needs. He was so gentle and humble with my mother and father, my wife Susan was so impressed by his way of handling this situation. All I could say in response was "Yes, Paul is amazing" . From that day forward, he had all my respect and love. Not saying he did not have it before, but man, was he ever present in my time of need and my already high opinion of him went to another level. He was truly an amazing man! I will miss you "brother", sorry I was not there for you in your time of need. Love your brother Eric!
