Paul's obituary
Paul Charles Towne
September 17, 1979 – May 8, 2025
Paul Charles Towne passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2025, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 45 years old.
Born in Fairfield, California on September 17, 1979, Paul grew up with a passion for music, mischief, and deep connections. He graduated from Placer High School in 1998, where his bold personality and musical talent made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Paul is survived by his beloved son, Orin Towne, whom he cherished deeply, his wife, Kaila Towne and his loving father Brian Towne. He was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Joy Elmore, his mother Charlene Towne, and his grandparents Railey and Barbara Dantin.
A gifted saxophonist, Paul’s musical spirit burned brightly from a young age. He was a founding member of the band Zoppo and the Truetones in the late '90s, where his larger-than-life stage presence and deep commitment to the music helped shape the group’s identity. He went on to play in bands like Moonlight Swing, Da Blues Crew, No Hands Band, and Souled out. Paul didn’t just play music—he lived it. Paul brought intensity, humor, and heart to every part of his life.
Beyond his music, Paul will be remembered for his generosity and unwavering loyalty. He had a quiet but consistent way of showing up for people when they needed it most. Whether offering a place to crash, a listening ear, or helping a friend through a rough patch, Paul had a heart that made room for others. He never asked for recognition—he just gave, because he believed in taking care of his people.
Through the years and miles may have created distance between friends, Paul left behind indelible memories and the echo of music that continues to resonate. “He played his heart out”
Paul Towne was one of a kind—wise beyond his years, devoted to his art, and deeply human in his hopes, struggles, and love for those around him.
A formal service will not be held, but those who wish to honor Paul’s memory are invited to contribute to “Play your heart out” : The Paul Towne Memorial Music Scholarship, a fund being established to support aspiring young musicians in their artistic journey—just as Paul lived his life: with heart, conviction, and soul. More information on how to contribute will be shared in the coming weeks.
