Paul's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul T. Summer on November 23, 2019. Born on Staten Island, New York on March 5, 1934, he was one of eight children of Herbert and Catherine Summer. He served in the Army during the Korean War and graduated from Wagner College. After a distinguished career on Wall Street, Paul represented the U.S. State Department in advancing financial markets in Kiev and Moscow. He was well known for the strength of his faith and was very active in the Catholic Church, serving as a Mass usher, leading youth meetings, teaching Pre-Cana workshops, and presenting Marriage Encounter weekends. He loved boating and fishing, playing with his grandkids and watching football.

He is survived by the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Summer, and their seven children: Ann (Bob), Joe (Roberta), Karen (Jamie), Paul (Brian), Jean (Michael), Theresa (Josh) and John (Marnee), their grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffery (Allison), Peter, Kevin, Megan (Zachary), Ryan (Whitney), Natasha, Tanya, Ava, Ella, Darwin, Machlin and two great grandchildren, Loic and Charles. Near to his heart are Maria Luisa (Remi), Solange, Megan, Jennifer, Amelia and Wesley. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.

His life will be celebrated in La Quinta, California at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10am on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, followed by a reception at the Riverdale Estates Clubhouse, Indio. There will be a memorial service and burial in New York in the spring of 2020.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to Covenant House, Paul and Joan’s long-term charity.
