My sincere condolences to the Birmingham family. The photo array and music were a perfect and touching memorial of Paul's life.

A number of us knew Paul from Holy Angels Grade school in Aurora. We are in the process of planning our 50th reunion for late this summer. And, upon trying to investigate how to contact some of the people that we've lost touch with over the years, one of the folks from our planning committee shared this obituary to our group today.

Please know that we will be remembering the folks who have passed from our HA class of '74 as we gather in late August. 🙏

We really want anyone who new Paul or knows any of the other people that were not in touch with to join us and to let us know how to contact some of those that were not in touch with at this time. We do have a Facebook page for the Holy Angels class of '74. And I believe the invitation is out there.

Again, best wishes to the Birmingham family. We will be sharing stories related to our class members when we gather.

I have many special memories of Paul and the Birmingham family while in the choir that Paul and Kit directed, at John XXIII Catholic Community. I became very close with their family, in the early 90’s. During that time, I spent many days in Tijeras New Mexico where I felt like I was part of the family. Paul filled any room with love, laughter, fun and his big hugs were the best. I could see every day how much he loved his family and my heart is breaking for Kit, and for Mary, Beth, and Jim. I will always cherish the memories, so blessed to have that time, and sending prayers, love, and my deepest sympathies. Love, Laurel ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My wife Patsy went to Gerard Catholic HS with Paul; I knew him from Arizona State University. Paul and I shared a house in Phoenix and even co-directed a church choir. Paul was always kind and giving and helpful in any way he could be. It was a joy having him as a friend, and I was more than a little sad when he moved to ABQ for his new job with his new wife.

I've known Paul since the mid 1980's when he came to work at Sperry Flight Systems in Albuquerque (later part of Honeywell Aerospace). We were coworkers and friends for many years. Paul always had a smile and a great positive attitude. He was a pleasure to have known.

I met Paul shortly after he moved to New Mexico. Mutual friends, Dave and Pat McCreery, were part of my balloon crew and brought Kit along one morning to help and enjoy a flight. When Paul arrived, he also joined my crew and got his first flight. The initiation following a first balloon flight involves drinking a little champagne but wearing more. I remember Kit’s glee at emptying the bottle of bubbly on Paul.
Paul and Kit became friends and a regular part of my crew. We enjoyed adventures and flights around Albuquerque and New Mexico. Even though job changes took me away from NM, we remained in touch. Even though I married Terri long after our NM era, Kit and Paul welcomed her as if she had always been there. We didn’t gather often but as trips brought me back to NM and AZ, we always managed to get together for a meal, reminiscing, and much laughter. They have been great friends.
Paul was the kindest, warmest, and funniest person I have ever met. He and Kit were meant for each other. I feel like I have lost a brother. We offer our sympathies and prayers to Kit, their children, and their families. Everyone who ever met Paul is better for having had him in their life.

Dinner with the Birmingham’s was always magical. Whether at our house, theirs, or at some unsuspecting restaurant, Paul’s presence ensured that the stories and the laughter lasted well into the night. More than one restaurant had to politely usher us to the door long after their usual closing time.
The Birmingham’s are like family and my heart breaks for Kit and for Jim, Beth, and Mary. Paul is irreplaceable, but he will always be remembered for the love and laughter he brought to our lives.

I was lucky enough to get to know Paul through his wonderful wife, Kit, with whom I worked. I can recall many fond memories of crewing for the Tequila Sunrise, and many wine-fueled evenings when the company was the best and the laughter was unending. I will always remember Paul’s laugh...it was booming and genuine.
In fact, Paul was as genuine and true as a man could be. There was never a doubt that he loved his family. And if you were lucky enough to have had him as a friend then you were truly blessed.
I am blessed to have had Paul in my life.

Paul was one of my closest boyhood friends. Got to know him in fourth grade at Holy Angels school in Aurora, and we were fast friends right up until the time his family moved to Arizona in the mid 70's. When I was in eighth grade I broke both of my wrists in a gym accident and Paul carried my books around for the next 8 weeks and took me home to lunch. I remember he would do algebra homework while listening to Bach on his headphones.
Always thought I'd see him again in this life. Made some Facebook contact recently. Will have to wait until the other side. God Bless him and his family.
