We were so sorry to hear of Uncle Norm’s passing. We are sending our love and condolences to friends and family. His surviving older sister, Phyllis McElroy, is saddened by the news. She told me how she will miss talking to him on the phone and how much all of his siblings loved their little brother. She said his three older sisters loved him very much. She also said he was a little rascal when he was a young boy. Also, according to Phyllis, his big brother Bob was quite pleased to have a brother to play with after having 3 older sisters.
My mother, Laurel McElroy, and her older brother Jeff McElroy were very fond of their Uncle Norm. They both enjoyed staying up all night contemplating life and the world’s problems. I remember their conversations were way over my head as a child and I would say my good nights and wake up to find them still talking.
He was a hero and an inspiration to his nephew Jeff. Jeff told me several times what a great person Norm was. Uncle Jeff joined the Marines to follow in the footsteps of his Uncle Norm.
I also recall and will miss Uncle Norm's happy nature and sharp wit. He was amusing to be around and talk with. We all enjoyed hearing about what he had been up to, whether that was visiting with family or writing a book. We are also very thankful Carl brought him to Fallon to visit with family and we will cherish all of the memories.
With love and keeping all in our prayers,
Phyllis McElroy and Korena Mewaldt (Phyllis's granddaughter and Norman's great-niece)
