Norman's obituary
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Norman F Baugher, Jr. A long time Fulton, MO resident, he transitioned peacefully with loved ones at his side on November 12, 2025, at the Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Norman was born on August 23, 1947, in Quincy, IL, to Norman F Baugher Sr and Dorothy V (Uppinghouse) Baugher. A 1965 graduate of Payson-Seymour High School, Norman joined the United States Marine Corps in the same year, serving his country with distinction. He was deployed to Da Nang Air Base and the surrounding villages in Vietnam from August 1967 to November 1968. He obtained his degree in Philosophy and English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1973 and later became a self-employed Electrician. On September 28, 1984, he married the love of his life, Prudence (Schmitt) Baugher in Fulton, MO. Norman's dedication and work ethic led him to a successful career at Ameren Union Electric from 1986 until his retirement in 2011.
Norman was a compassionate, intelligent, and fun-loving man who lived his life unapologetically, centered around enriching the lives of others and bringing joy and humor wherever he could. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved attending and cheering at his children's sporting events or performance arts and cherished making his children and grandchildren laugh. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. He had an intense love for music; in his teens he was a drummer in the first rock band to play at the Illinois state fair: The Malibus. His deployment in Vietnam was a testament to his selflessness, where he worked tirelessly to achieve his wartime mission as a Marine, but also as a volunteer to improve the quality of life for local families devasted by the war. In his retirement he immensely enjoyed traveling to see his children, or to go camping with his wife in their RV. His legacy will be one of laughter, unconditional love, and honesty.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Prudence Baugher, his children: Heather Singleton, Matthew (Mandy) Baugher, Holly Baugher, Morgan (David) Doty, and Michael (Jordan) Baugher, his siblings: Nancy (Loren) Lummer, Clay (Debra) Baugher, Deborah (Gary Lewis) Davis, and Donna Archibald, his grandchildren: Lindsey (Jake) Tanner, Marah Franklin, Lainey Franklin, William Baugher, Henry Doty, Eva Doty, and Alice Doty, and his great grandchildren: Beau Tanner, Norah Tanner, Margot Tanner, Tristan Tanner, and Finn Tanner, and his Aunts: Alice Allensworth and Nadine Uppinghouse.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Norman F Baugher Sr. and Dorothy Baugher.
