I have been trying to contact Newman for years; I'm saddened to learn of his passing.  I met him in 1975 on the campus of the University of Kansas.  We lived in the same dorm, Ellsworth Hall; he was one of my closest friends.  We had a lot in common; we were both 22-year-old freshmen.  Newman always wore a smile; he was always so upbeat, and he always had something interesting to say.  Newman was also so competitive, after the first semester we made a bet to see who would have the highest spring semester GPA. I left the school before the semester ended, so he won the bet by default.  After I left KU, I we lost track, but I did speak to him on the phone a few years later.  He told me he was in the DC area (I don't remember why).  It's an old says that "time waits for no man."  I intended to contact him sooner; I always assumed that there would be more time.  I wish I had tried sooner; it huts to know that he is no longer with us.  I wish his surviving family well, I know he is missed.

Newman was a great brother-in-law and family man. I will never forget how he loved the Fourth of July and always took his family down to the mall in DC to see the fireworks and to have a family picnic. This was indicative of how he loved being a dad and enjoying good times. He would often invite our family to join them although after 9-11, we preferred not to go. Now, I wish we had. But there were plenty of other special times that we had together. Memories of Newman will last forever.

Newman and I were friends many years ago in high school. He was a truly authentic person and I’m sure the world is a little less bright with his passing.

May your grief eventually become nothing but joyful memories of Newman.

Dear Khara, Zhara and Jamila,

Your dad was very special to our family. He was a loving husband to Teresa, my sister and doting father to his children and grandchildren. He loved all of you unconditionally. One of my fondest memory of him was how he loved talking politics. He and Teresa both knew that I was obsessed with the news. My sister and I talked several times a week and afterwards she would give him the phone knowing that he wanted to talk to me about the latest news and especially politics. That gave him so much satisfaction. I will cherish those talks with him. And I pray that your loving memories of him will sustain you and brighten your spirits in days to come.

Finally, The Bible teaches us that to be absent from the body Is to be present with the Lord. Therefore, I can envision Newman with The Lord, Teresa and other family members.

Love and Blessings,

Aunt Jackie

Newman was a wonderful brother in law who loved his family dearly. Teresa, children and grandchildren were his precious gems!

I always looked forward to seeing them at special family gatherings. I enjoyed talking with Newman, always upbeat with a great sense of humor. He kept us all laughing. I loved hearing him singing and going back and forth with the other brothers in law about their fraternities.  Each telling why their fraternities were the best. We all knew Newman was a proud member of Omega Psi Fi.

We have some wonderful memories that we'll cherish in our hearts. Rest well and enjoy heaven with our beautiful sister Teresa and the rest of your loved ones.  Love you Khary, Jamila and Zahra!  Sincerely , Aunt Rebecca

My big sister, Teresa, met and married the love of her life, Newman Williams.  She shared with us time and time again of how they met each other.  And I listened each time. Soul mates.  Their love for God enhanced and strengthened their love for each other throughout their years together. Inseparable. Newman loved talking about the politics of the day when we shared robust conversations. I will miss my brother-n-love dearly, but surely he is with Jesus and with his Teresa enjoying heaven. To Khary, Jamila, and Zahra, and the family, I love you all and send prayers of God's comfort at this time. Aunt Gail

From Mila

As my soul slides down to die

How could I lose him?

What did I try?

Bit by bit, I've realized

That he was here with me

And I looked into my father's eyes

I worked closely with Teresa at ORU for many years. I knew Khary, as well, and my daughter is quite familiar with the twins. Once in a while, Newman would have lunch with some of us in the Deli. Our greatest topic was the great Chicago Bears! He was a fine man, a loving husband, and I always enjoyed chatting with him. He endured some hardships, but trusted in the Lord consistently.

Jesus loves you!
