This is an email I received from Nancy several years ago. Her prayer was answered.

Some of you have commented on my faith, joy and lack of fear or anxiety during this time. I want to share with you why that is. I know some of you are not believers but I wanted to share this with you anyway.

This is an assurance given to us in the Bible:

Romans 5 (NIV) Peace and Hope

1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Obviously this is a growth process and I've been a work in progress for longer than you might think. I trusted Jesus for my salvation at the ripe old age of 6. Some would say I was too young to know what I was doing. I wasn't and I did. Of course I didn't understand all the theology but I had already been taught about God, the Bible, Jesus and why he left heaven to come to us, sin, repentance and forgiveness. Never underestimate the ability of even small children to understand these things. Jesus didn't.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
I've had 54 years with God in my heart and by my side. Did I always act like it? No. That's why his Grace is so important! But that's another story for another time. Over the years & through many tough lessons I've learned a lot, most importantly that I can trust God absolutely! Difficulties and challenges are not punishments for Christians! They are gifts of opportunity! These are the times through which we seek God. If everything were always perfect would we ever look to God? These are the times when our faith grows and strengthens. If we don't exercise our muscles they weaken and atrophy. So does faith.
When Katie was a child she loved Winnie the Pooh. A few years ago one of her Christmas gifts was a plaque with these of Pooh's words on it:
β€œIf ever there is tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you.” A. A. Milne

The difficult times remind us of the same thing. We get through it and learn and grow from it. The next time you face something challenging, give it to God and ask him to use it for your growth and his glory!
In 1993 when I learned there was a tumor attached to my septum that would have to be removed, I was completely overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. I didn't even know yet that it was cancer. I have no memory of the drive from the doctor's office in Rockville to Rt 107 outside Poolesville (about 15 miles). Then I became aware that I was trying to pray but could find no words. I started reciting "The Lord's Prayer", a prayer that hadn't meant anything to me until that moment, but this time was different. It came from deep in my heart. I was crying out to God with everything in me. Suddenly my mind became perfectly calm and still. My heart rate slowed. I had been given absolute peace! It was like being in the loudest concert ever given and suddenly being on a far ocean or mountain in absolute silence. That peace is still with me today. .That's not to say I never have moments of fear or concern. But I need only remember whose I am to calm those fears.
I was on my way home one morning from a radiation treatment and I was worried about Katie, then 7, and Chelsea, 3. This was the one worry I had hung onto. What would Rod do? Would he be able to cope, to care for them? What if he remarried? Would she love them? Would they have more children? On and my mind whirled. Suddenly I heard God say, "I love them more than you do." Was it audible? It seemed like it to me. How do I know it was God? I just do.
My last worry disappeared in an instant and I realized that whether I lived or died didn't matter. It was absolutely clear to me that no matter what, everything would unfold just as God intended. He has a plan and a purpose that will not be diverted or denied.
"The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and they that dwell therein." Psalm 1:24 AKJV
When I create something, like the jewelry I enjoy making, it is mine. I made it. I can give it away. I can sell it. I can do whatever I want to do with it. God created all that exists and it is his to do with as he pleases.
Each of us will be here until we have fulfilled our part of His purpose and then He will carry us home. The Bible is overflowing with assurances that as his beloved children we have nothing to worry about. Here are just a few reminders that everything happens at just the right time, in just the right place, just the way God purposed, to further His Kingdom.
*Exodus 16:18 "And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed." (Refers to manna from heaven given to the Israelites after their escape from Egypt)
Exodus 39:43 "Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them."
Joshua 11:23 "So Joshua took the entire land, just as the Lord had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war."
Daniel 9:13 "Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth."
Matthew 26:24 "The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
Luke 19:32 "Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them."
John 5:21 "For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it."
Acts 27:25 "So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me."
Romans 4:18 "Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, β€œSo shall your offspring be.”
Colossians 1:6 "In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole worldβ€”just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace."
Romans 5:6 "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly."
Before God began creating, he already knew that Lucifer would rebel; that his rebellion would spread to the creation. He also knew that he would love his ultimate creation, man, too much to just throw him away. So he also created a solution to the dilemma of rebellion. As the Word spoke, "Let there be Light." the plan was set in motion. The part that really grabs me and won't let go is that Jesus - The Word - uttered "Let there be Light" already knowing that a tree would grow and become an instrument of torture - His torture and death, so that we would live and not remain separated from God by our sin! I am so overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of His choice!
When The Spirit reveals and impresses on us the extent and power of God's will and his love for us (and this is not nearly all of it - that would be too much to bear) there is no place for fear! Only Joy! Even death holds no fear. It is a release from the pain and suffering of life in an imperfect world. It is total and absolute freedom. We become what God intended from the beginning!

My cup overflows. Language is so pitifully inadequate!
1
"The Lord is my light and my salvationβ€”
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my lifeβ€”
of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalm 27:1-3

My ongoing prayer is that God will continue to grow me and use me for his glory and to further his kingdom and when I am done, to carry me safely home. Amen
In His Love,
Nancy
