Nancy's obituary
Nancy Susan Hafner, age 66, passed away from Covid on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida. Nancy was born on February 28, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was one of five children to Wayne and Lucille Herndon: her three sisters; Patty, Judy, and Betty, and her brother, Dan. Her sister, Patty, also recently died from Covid. And her sister, Judy, recently died from lung cancer. Her only surviving sibling is Betty Pruitt. Nancy was married to Mark Hafner for 22 years, but they divorced . Nancy has six children: Matthew, Elisabeth, Michael, Joshua, Rebecca, and Sarah. Nancy also has nine grandchildren: Caleb, Jacob, Nicholi, Clayton, Cody, Sophia, Skylar, Tristan, and Benny. Nancy had lots of friends, and her two best friends were Crystal and Tammy. Nancy had three cats: Precious, Muffins, and Tinkerbell. She was loved by so very many people who will miss her always and forever.
Nancy spent almost her whole life in St. Louis, Missouri. She spent the last five years in Brooksville, Florida. Her oldest son, Matt, and his wife, Gail, moved her there to be closer to them, and their two kids, Nicholi and Sophia. Nancy enjoyed going to school functions, family gatherings, holiday parties, and the movies with Matt's family in her last five years. She also had lots of fun with her two besties, Crystal and Tammy. They enjoyed shopping, eating at Breakfast Station and Luigi's, and going to church. Nancy loved her three cats dearly, and she took care of the strays near her home. She worked with the local no kill shelter called Alley Cats and Desert Dogs, which took in some of the strays she helped. Luckily, a wonderful woman agreed to take in all three of Nancy's cats so they could stay together in a good home.
Nancy spent most of her life raising her six children. and helping to care for her nine grandchildren. She loved her kids unconditionally, and would do anything for them. Nancy loved kids so much, that when hers were all grown up, she started a daycare in her home to care for other children. Nancy was a devoted Christian woman her whole life. She recently was a member of Vinelife Christian Church in Brooksville, Florida. Nancy helped run bible groups and care for kids in the daycare there. She also taught Awana at a nearby church. Nancy served as a volunteer for Awana Bible School for over twenty years. She was a very generous and caring woman who always had time for those in need of help.
Everyone who knew Nancy, knew she was a major cat enthusiast! She had a huge collection of cat decor items including; paintings, statues, music boxes, and lots of tee-shirts she wore constantly. Like many St. Louisians, she was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team. She never missed watching them play. Nancy loved watching movies, reading the Bible and other religious books, shopping, adult coloring, attending church, and collecting. Some of her favorite collections were: Beanie Babies, Ziggy Dolls, music boxes, and snow globes. Nancy was passionate about a lot of things, but mostly she was passionate about being kind to everyone. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Nancy's wish was to be cremated, and to have her ashes split into six urns for her six children. We hope this obituary site can bring people who loved Nancy together.
