Mona's obituary
Mona Weeks Stephenson of Wake Forest, NC, age 88, was born on November 26, 1936 in Durham, NC. Her parents were Lloyd Thornton Weeks and Marguerite Gardner Weeks. Mona graduated from Garner High School in 1955. She enjoyed participating in drama, chorus, and was all about her then boyfriend, A.P. (according to one former high school friend). She and her husband, Alton Parker Stephenson (A.P.) were married on July 4, 1956 in Raleigh, NC. Mona died in Raleigh, NC on February 11, 2025 from complications following surgery.
Mona and A.P. resided in Maryland for the majority of their marriage where A.P. was a high school Woodshop teacher. They had one daughter, Danielle Susan Stephenson Lowden. Upon A.P.’s passing in 2019, Mona moved back to NC and lived with Danielle and her husband, Chris and their children.
Mona spent her career working in banking and in accounting. She earned her certificate in Accounting from Harford Community College in Maryland. She concluded her accounting career working at Brooks-Huff Tire and Auto Center in Hunt Valley, MD. She had been a Girl Scout leader and a high school band volunteer. Upon moving to NC in 2019, she attended Seven Marks Church and was active with her senior group at church. She also attended Old Landmark of Deliverance Church of Raleigh with some very dear and special friends. She had also reconnected with a close-knit group of girlfriends from her high school years. "The Girls," as they were known, would attend lunch once a month to catch up with one another.
Mona is preceded in death by her husband, A.P and her grandson, Eric Lowden (age 27). She is survived by her daughter, Danielle Lowden, son-in-law, Chris Lowden, and granddaughters, McKenna (age 23), Sophia (age 19), and Tori Lowden (age 15).
