MITCH SIMON MEMORIAL
DATE OF DEATH FEB 1, 2021. DATE OF MEMORIAL FEB 7TH, 2021

FIFTY SEVEN YEARS IS A LONG TIME TO MAINTAIN A FRIENDSHIP. MITCH WAS NOT ONLY MY BEST FRIEND, HE BECAME MY BROTHER. WE GREW UP IN REGO PARK QUEENS, NY. WE HAD A LARGE GROUP OF FRIENDS GROWING UP. WITHOUT SOCIAL MEDIA WE MANAGED TO GET TOGETHER IN THE PARK ACROSS THE STREET FROM MITCH’S HOUSE TO PLAY BASKETBALL, DOWN TO THE FLEET STREET FIELDS FOR PICK UP BASEBALL AND FOOTBALL GAMES. MITCH’S HOUSE WAS IN THE CENTER OF MUCH OF OUR HOUSES AND IT BECAME THE GATHERING PLACE FIRST TO PLAY WITH HIS HUGE SET OF TRAINS. WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR THE TRAINS TO LEAVE A POOL TABLE SHOWED UP AND MANY OF US GATHERED FOR 8 BALL REGULARLY AT HIS HOUSE. OUR CORE GROUP THOUGH BECAME MITCH, MYSELF, STEVE WEISSGLASS AND DON ROMAN. AT PS 174 WE HAD A CROSSING GUARD SYSTEM, I WAS THE SARGE, MITCH WAS THE LIEUTENANT AND BRUCE BRAFFMAN WAS THE CAPTAIN. WHEN WE MOVED ONTO JHS AND HS, MYSELF MITCH, DON AND STEVE WE WALKED TO AND FROM SCHOOL EVERY SINGLE DAY RAIN OR SNOW. JHS WAS A HALF MILE WALK AND HS WAS A TWO MILE WALK EACH WAY.

LET ME TOUCH A MINUTE ON HIS FAMILY. HIS MOM DIANE IS 91 AND CAN GET THE BEST OF YOU ON POLITICAL TALK. HIS DAD A WORLD WAR II VETERAN USED TO SQUEEZE MY HAND SO TIGHT IT HURT AND OF COURSE HE ALWAYS HAD TO SHOW YOU HIS ONE ARM PUSH UPS. HIS DAD WAS AWARDED THE PURPLE HEART AND TWO BRONZE METALS FOR HIS BRAVERY AND HE WAS AWARDED THE FRENCH METAL OF HONOR, ONE THAT FEW GET.
IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WE WERE NOT TOO MUCH INTO GIRLS. IN FACT MITCH WAS PRETTY SHY AROUND GIRLS I BELIEVE EVEN THROUGH COLLEGE THOUGH HE HAD A GREAT BUDDY IN SUE MILLER. BUT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WE DID SNEAK OFF TO THE BASEMENT OF ONE OF THE GIRLS HOUSES TO PLAY SPIN THE BOTTLE AND I THINK MITICH HAD AN EARLY EYE FOR WENDY SILVERMAN. MITCH HAD AN EARLY EYE FOR TROUBLE, HE GOT THROWN OUT MS. SALLY’S CLASS FOR LOBBING A SPIT BALL THROUGH A STRAW. IN CAMP MITCH WAS A LITTLE JEALOUS OF MY EARLY AM WATER SKI SO WHEN I LEFT EARLY AND MADE MY BED, HE MESSED IT UP SO WHEN THE BUNK WAS INSPECTED THEY SAW MY MESSED UP BED AND STRIPPED IT AND MY CUBBY. I GOT IT.

COLLEGE LIFE FOR MITCH WAS FIRST AT SUNY STONY BROOK AND EVENTUALLY ONTO SUNY ALBANY. I CAME TO VISIT HIM ONE WEEKEND AND HE FAILED TO PAY HIS OIL BILL. WE ARE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE, WE ALL SLEPT IN THE KITCHEN WITH THE STOVE AND ALL THE BURNERS ON. WE HAD TROUBLE WITH OIL ONE MORE TIME IN COLLEGE. WE DROVE DOWN TO FLORIDA IN HIS YELLOW VOLKSWAGAN AND HIS CAR BROKE DOWN IN FLORIDA. THEY REPLACED THE OIL IN HIS CAR IN FLORIDA. WHEN HE GOT BACK TO THE FREEZING TEMPERATURES IN ALBANY THE FLORIDA OIL FROZE UP AND HE COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR WEEKS.
AS YOU KNOW, MITCH BECAME A CHIROPRACTOR AT NATIONAL COLLEGE OF CHIROPRACTIC IN CHICAGO. HE FIRST SWEET LOVE WAS JEAN AND REMAINED FRIENDS TO THIS DAY. AFTER JEAN ONE COULD SAY WOMEN BECAME A VERY BIG PART OF HIS LIFE. . HE LOVED MANY OF THEM, AND I CAN TELL YOU, I COULD HAVE MARRIED MANY HE TURNED AWAY.

DURING THAT TIME THAT HE BROKE UP HIS MARRIAGE TO TRACY, I GOT MARRIED TO MY FORMER SPOUSE BARBARA AND EVENTUALLY HAD TWO CHILDREN, HANNAH AND MELISSA. MITCH USED TO LOVE TO PLAY WITH MY KIDS. HE WOULD CHASE THEM BOTH AROUND THE POOL TABLE AND MORE. LATER IN LIFE, HE LOVED TO PLAY WITH CAROLYN’S DAUGHTER ADDIE AND VERY MUCH ENJOYED BEING PART OF ADDIES LIFE.

I DID A LOT OF THINGS TOGETHER WITH MITCH. HIKED THE APALACHIAN TRAIL, THE LONG TRAIL. TOOK SOME GREAT VACATIONS TOGETHER. ICELAND, BIKING TO CROATIA, PANAMA AND MORE. WE WOULD TALK SOMETIMES THREE TO FOUR TIMES A DAY. LEFT A BIG HOLE IN MY HEART.

WOMEN WERE EASILY ATTRACKED TO MITCH. WE WOULD GO TO DANCES OR THE MFA FIRST FIRDAYS AND WOMEN WOULD CIRCLE AROUND HIM. WE ONCE WENT TO A DANCE AND THIS HOT WOMAN KEPT CIRCLING AND FINALLY CAME UP TO HIM AND SAID MY COUSIN WANTS TO MEET YOU. YES I WAS A LITTLE JEALOUS OF ALL THE ATTENTION HE GOT.
AS I SAID, HE MET SOME GREAT AND WONDERFUL WOMEN. KAREN, LISA, EILEEN, WENDY, SUSAN, JEN, CAROLYNE, KARLA AND MORE. HE LOVED EVERY ONE OF YOU.

MITCH HAD AN UNCANNY ABILITY TO MAKE FRIENDS LATER IN LIFE. HIS CHIRORPACTIC CIRCLE INVOLVED MYSELF, ANDY, STU AND STEVE. WE WOULD GET TOGTHER ALMOST MONTHLY FOR OUR BURGER NIGHTS. BUT HE CONNECTED TO SO MANY OTHERS. CURTIS FOR SUSHI AND BASKETBALL. ALAN FOR TENNIS, DEB FEINBLOOM AND BONNIE BERG,FOR ADVICE, SUE COMMIT FOR CHESS AND MORE, AND, GET TOGETHERS WITH DREW. HE KEPT IN CONTACT WITH FRIENDS NEAR AND FAR. STU HORAN IN CONNECTICUT, SUE MILLLER IN NY AND MORE. HE WAS THE GLUE THAT KEPT MANY TOGETHER.

MITCH GRADUATED CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE FROM NATIONAL COLLEGE OF CHIROPRACTIC. HIS FIRST JOB WAS AN ASSOCIATE FOR DAVID SINGER ON THE JERSEY SHORE. THEN HE MOVED UP TO BOSTON TO BE WITH HIS FRIEND JEFF BERNSTEIN. MITCH’S FIRST OFFICE WAS IN NATICK MASS. THEN MOVED TO BE WITH DR. BERNSTEIN IN FRAMINGHAM, THEN BOUGHT INTO THE PRACTICE WITH DR. CHERYL RUBIN. HE LEARNED A LOT FROM CHERYL. FINALLY, HE STARTED HIS NEXT PRACTICE IN BRIGHTON, SIMON CHIROPRACTIC. MITCH WAS IN PRACTICE FOR OVER 35 YEARS AND HE LOVED CHIROPRACTIC AND LOVED HIS PATIENTS AND HAD GREAT REVIEWS.

ONE CAN NOT END A TALK WITHOUT DISCUSSING MITCH’S NEW FAMILY. WHEN HIS MOM TOLD HIM JUST FOUR YEARS AGO, THAT HIS FATHER COULD NOT HAVE KIDS DUE TO INJURIES TO HIS BODY FROM THE WAR. HIS DAD AND MOM DECIDED TO HAVE A CHILD BY ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION BY A POOR MED STUDENT AT MOUNT SINAI. FOR AWHILE HE HAD NO INTEREST IN FINDING OUT ABOUT HIS BIOLOGICAL FAMILY. I PUSHED HIM TO DO 23 AND ME AND WE ALSO WENT TO A TALK AT THE BROOKLINE BOOKSMITH ON SOMEONE WHO ALSO WENT THROUGH THIS. HE BONDED ALSO WITH HIS ONCOLOGIST WHOSE HUSBAND HAD A SIMILAR STORY. 23 AND ME DISCOVERED HIS HALF BROTHER ERIC. ERIC AND HIS SIBLINGS MET AND IMMEDIATELY THEY BONDED. THEY BECAME A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF HIS LIFE AND IT ADDED NEW MEANING TO IT.

I WAS LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO CALL MITCH MY FRIEND, MY BROTHER. I WILL MISS HIM TERRIBLY AND MISS SPEAKING AND TEXTING TO HIM DAILY. SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Who would have thought that when I last saw Dr. Simon on Feb. 22, 2020 that it would be the last time? I’m still in disbelief that he’s gone. In my 17 years as his patient, what always struck me about him was his love of the outdoors, his ability to ride the waves of life and his desire to find meaning in what came his way.

Yes Dr. Simon helped me with my physical pain. But he did so much more for me. And one thing that I could ALWAYS count on him for was a laugh. Oh his stories were pure magic. And he was so great with my two boys. They loved to come with me for my visits.

He was and will continue to be an inspiration - to remain healthy and active - and to make the best of what comes my way.

Rest In Peace Dr. Simon.

My family were patients of Dr. Simon for nearly a decade. It was wonderful to share wellness experiences and tips with each other, and we really felt known by him. I was inspired by his energy and enthusiasm for life, and I loved gaining new restaurant and outdoor adventure ideas. It is unbelievable to think that he will no longer be a part of our lives. Thank you for allowing us to share in this service with his community. Peace be with you all.
Sincere condolences to Mitch’s family and friends. I was a patient of Dr Simon and he was the best chiropractor I ever met. I always enjoyed my sessions with him. Not only did he provide fantastic treatment that helped me when others couldn't, but we always had the best conversations about life. Including his newfound happiness on discovering his step siblings, I will miss Dr Simon very much and am saddened by his passing. Rest In Peace.

I met Dr. Simon when I worked at Beacon Chiropractic. His energy and spirit was contagious. He always knew how to make you smile. He would sneak in the backroom to get a bite of peanut butter between patients and ask me to grab a spoon to have some with him. You are already so very missed.

Still can't believe he has passed ... I keep waiting for his text or phone call. We lost him so quickly in the end. Mitch and I shared our chiropractic office space in Brookline from 2000 until 2009. Needless to say Mitch and his antics were always entertaining and unpredictable. I never knew what he was up to next and quickly learned not to be surprised by his next "exciting" adventure.
He texted me when he tested positive for Covid. I was, Mitch it's like you have reverse Megabucks. He laughed at the disbelief of his present reality. Then he called me when he was becoming symptomatic with Covid. He wanted to talk about what he should do with his chiropractic practice; sell it or just close up shop. We talked about the pluses and minuses of each. And then he said " Ah, this practice thing is stressing me out. I can't deal with it. The Bachlorette is on, I'm going to go watch that. I'll talk to you soon." Mitch, still in true fashion. I miss him dearly!!
RIP Mitch ❤️ Your charismatic soul, wit and quirkiness will be forever missed. You brought so much joy to my life, and the lives of all that knew you. I would do anything for one more day of adventure with you....so many great memories of our times together. You were truly blessed with such an array of amazing people in your life. See you on the other side P.
Quirky, funny and high energy - Mitch and I spent many hours trying to figure it all out. We had fun playing tennis, biking and doing our favorite activity - sitting at a bar and just schmoozing . We always had interesting conversations laughing at the absurdities of life and Larry David always seemed to creep into our world. The bottom line is that we never did figure it all out.
Hard to believe that Mitch is gone - he will be missed by so many.

I met Mitch when he took over my practice in Brookline. He and I just clicked and I felt instantly that it was meant to be! I trusted him to take care of my patients and he didn’t disappoint. He was kind ,caring, funny and deeply interesting! I must admit that I was a little in love with him as a soul buddy! I recently reached out when I heard he was ill. I stayed in touch through his friend Cheryl. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. He was a beautiful soul. RIP dear Mitch.

We met Memorial Day weekend, 2002 , in the Hamptons. Sharing a summer house with Mitch changed the path of my life when I met his wingman, my husband. This photo is from my wedding ; of course, his best man speech had everyone in stitches. I will cherish his friendship and humor. Love & Miss you Mitch!

I am saddened to hear the news of Mitchell Simon's passing this week - he was a special man. I have been his chiropractic patient for many years - since he bought the practice in Brookline. He was very skilled and intuitive in his treatment. He also had a compassionate and open demeanor, that went above and beyond his technical skill. I will miss our conversations and shared perspectives, and especially his kindness. My condolences to the family and friends he has left behind.

My sincerest condolences to all of Mitch's family and friends. I met Mitch Simon years ago. He was an attendee at a Svaroopa Yoga workshop week at Kripalu that I also happened to be attending. Then we met again while I was sharing office space with Dr. Julie Wiener on Beacon Street. Our office was right next to Mitch's. I will remember his wonderful sense of humor, what a great chiropractor he was, how very "human" and unpretentious he was and his ebullient personality. If anyone can be having a great time riding around with the top down in heaven, I know it is Mitch. To me, Mitch was what yoga calls a great combination of human and divine. I will miss his funny stories and his great personal ambience. He made his mark and made it beautifully and well, with just that little pinch of naughty that made him so endearing. Rest in peace, Mitch. So many will miss you and we all wish you bon voyage on your spirit's continuing journey.
