Mike's obituary
Michael "Mike" Edward Whedon, 80, of Ellicott, CO, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 21, 2022 due to congestive heart failure. Mike was born on July 3, 1941 to Clark and Mary Whedon in Rockford, IL. After graduating from Hononegah High School, he went on to study physics at the University of Illinois.
Mike's studies were put on hold while he served in the US Army as a screaming eagle in the 101st Airborne Division during the Berlin Crisis. Upon completion of his service, Mike completed his degree and later moved to Colorado Springs, CO where he met, Janice McCagh. They wed and had two daughters Bethany and Meghan. Mike worked diligently with his wife to build a family farm in Ellicott as well as a landscaping business in Colorado Springs.
Mike had many hobbies. Earlier in his life, Mike was a pilot and enjoyed taking his family and friends on flights. Mike also earned a black belt in karate and spent time as an instructor. Later in life Mike began to practice taxidermy and took up painting. He loved nature, gardening, and enjoyed spending time with his family hiking, fishing, and identifying plants and animals during their outdoor adventures. He volunteered for the Colorado Division of Wildlife and founded a non-profit organization, Bare Bones Library, to teach children about science and animals.
Mike was predeceased by his wife, Janice Whedon and his parents, Clark Whedon and Mary Whedon. He is survived by his daughters, Bethany (Luke) Dovenspike and Meghan (Mark) Stidd, his grandchildren, Hunter Dovenspike and Anna Stidd, and his siblings Patrick Whedon, Linda Beam, Steve Whedon, and Kandie Matelski.
