Itโ€™s been two years and I just read Mikeโ€™s obituary. Sorry, I have nothing else to add, as I havenโ€™t let him go.
Funny thing about Oak, He was truly one of the kindest men I ever metโ€ฆ.He just didnโ€™t want anyone to know it! He was unequivocally about the deed, not the recognitionโ€ฆโ€ฆI love the ability to rat Him out. Missed daily

I worked on Mikeโ€™s Vans for 20 years. He was on Van 3 when he passed.
He was always generous and grateful. He tipped John Sorensen, his favorite mechanic.
I wish MaryAnne and Sammy the very best wishes and memories and future celebrations with miracles.

Brad McCombs
Mike was one of our greatest friends ever. We always enjoyed his company. Friend and family gatherings during the holidays and beach parties were filled with fun and laughter. You will be dearly missed our good friend Mike more and more as each day passes. Our deepest & heartfelt condolences to Mike's wife Maryanne and his daughter Samantha and family. May you Rest in Peace Dear Friend ๐Ÿ•Š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•Š

Mike was one of the nicest friends ever. Memories are precious and golden.
Mike was a very knowledgeable and reliable instrument technician for about 50 Costco optometry offices in Southern California for the 20 years we knew him. If my collegues or I ever had a problem with an instrument, we knew that one phone call to Mike would get it resolved ASAP. Over the years, without fail, he would get to our offices in LA and fix or replace the instrument before we even opened at 10 am. What a great guy, dear friend and tremendous asset he was for all of us! Thanks for all those years of dedication to us all, Mike. RIP. My deepest condolences to his family.

Michaelโ€™s Mom, โ€œFavorite โ€œ Aunt Dorothy (as she referred to herself) and my Mom (Mary) were sisters along with Aunt Betty and Aunt Margaret. Michael inherited his Momโ€™s Irish humor. Always had a great story to tell. He also had a soft side to him. As kids, we spent memorable times together play acting, visiting in Maryland, Jersey City, down the shore, family reunions.
Jim and I were able to visit with Mike, MaryAnne and Samantha just once in CA. It was like time had stood still. They welcomed us with open arms.
Gone too soon Michael. May you rest in the arms of the angels. Wishing peaceful hearts for your loved ones.
Cheryl & Jim
Sam, I am so sorry for your loss. Sending love and hugs.
When Michael was about ten years old he came home carring this fat tiny puppy! He said to my mother,โ€ look, he followed me home, can we keep him?! He was so young he could barely walk! Of course Mom let him keep Teddy! Wound up to be the best dog we ever had!
One of my fondest childhood memories was the period when Mike and the rest of the Oakley "crew" moved in with us on Van Nostrand Avenue in Jersey City. Uncle Sam was assigned to Bayonne Navy Base and they lived with us for a few months until they could find a place to live. It was great having all those cousins in our two bedroom house. Bob, Mike, David (he was a new born in a crib) slept in the same room. I was so sad
when they moved out. We stayed close throughout the years. Mike would visit me and my own family often when we lived in Torrance and then Newhall, CA. My kids, Shannon and Justin, loved him ! He was always so much fun and they would hang all over him. We were all so blessed to have him and shall miss him deeply.
Cousin, George Fay

I met Mike Oakley at a place called Chester's in Setauket (Long Island).
Iโ€™m sure it was an older house at one time (17 or 1800โ€™s).
But it was a Bar in the 1970โ€™s, that had local bands playing a few nights a week. Being a senior in high school, It was fun to hang out there.
Well one Thursday night (it was a school night) this guy (Mike Oakley )was there with several of his friends and I was there with my friends, but also there, was a young guy from my school that was always friendly with anyone and everyone and always walking around talking to everyone, well he happened to notice a few things going on and he came over to talk to me and the next thing I know
I hafta go buy this kid a drink, which I did....
When I got back to my table Mike Oakley was siting at my table and in my chair!!
While I was getting This kid Tommy a drink he went and told Mike to stop staring at me and go sit in my chair.
I did not see Mike because Tommy was blocking him but he took the drink from me and walked away laughing. I hafta say I was a little bit stunned!
That was the second time I saw Mike at Chesterโ€™s but the first time that I met him. I guess we hit off okay because the next night we had our 1st date and that was February 21st 1975.
Iโ€™ve basically been in love with him ever since that day! That summer I skipped out on my graduation from high school and drove cross country with him and Cathy (a family friend), in her car to California and back to New York.
On February 21st 2021,
I reminded Mike about us meeting and that it was 46 years ago that day that we had our 1st date !
He remembered it and we both couldnโ€™t believe 46 years had passed.
It was close to midnight that night, when I was getting us ready for bed, that something went very wrong.
I honestly did not know that would be my last night with him. I really thought we had more time together. And if I had my way, we would be both live to at least our 90โ€™s!
In a few hours from now it will be 2 weeks since Sammie and I (and Levi) Had to say goodbye to him and let him go, to what we have been hearing is a much better place! We all certainly hope to get there (much better place) someday!
In the meantime Sammie and I will be missing him and most likely crying a lot. So, I am sorry but....
Get used to it ... is all I can say!
Mikey I love you with all my โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ’œ โ™ฅ๏ธ! And I miss you so very very much!!

MaryAnne and Samantha, sending love and light to the both of you. Your dad/husband will always be with you. Love never diesโค๏ธ Thinking about you bothโค๏ธ
MaryAnn and Samantha, I was so saddened to hear of Mike's passing. I met him through Greg long ago in Charlottesville. He was a great guy and my heart goes out to you and his family. Sending prayers for your comfort. Kathy Winslow
Since Mike's passing I have been flooded with memories of our younger days together. Memories of our escapades, laughter and great friendship. Memories buried by 40 plus years of not hanging out. Where did the time go?...you were the friend that others wish they had..... I am heartened to hear that Mary Anne was at your side the whole way....love you like a brother and miss you greatly
