Michael's obituary

Michael (Mike) Earl Gilmore was born in Anderson Indiana on December 16, 1947 to Earl and Rosemary Gilmore. He passed away on February 8, 2020 at his home in Brighton, CO. He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Gilmore. He is survived by his loving wife Cynthia Gilmore from Brighton, CO; sons Kale (Claire) and Shane (Alicia) Gilmore, from his first marriage to Christie Gilmore, from Broomfield. Grand children Cole (Devon) and Taylor Gilmore, Great-Grandson Jack Gilmore. Mother Rosemary Gilmore, Sister Linda (Ron) Similo, Nieces Megan (Matt) and Lori (Dave) their children and many other friends and family members.

Mike spent his childhood in Indiana before moving to Elizabeth PA where he was president of the Latin club and was also a stand-out athlete excelling in four sports (football, basketball, baseball, track and field) at Elizabeth-Forward High School. After high school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Washington and Jefferson College and was a member of the football and track and field athletic programs.

Mike was a proud but humble combat Veteran of the United States Navy after college where he served on the USS Kansas City AOR 3 as a Gunner’s Mate during the Vietnam war earning a Bronze Star along with other service medals and commendations.

After serving in the Navy, Mike moved to Broomfield, Colorado where he raised a family and worked in the meat supplier/distribution industry for the likes of Colonial Beef Co., Sysco, and Freedman Meats where he was known as a great co-worker and all around great person.

Mike always enjoyed the outdoors and spent countless hours working in his yard with his beloved wife Cynthia.

Mike’s love for his family was undeniable, the love for his country was unwavering and the impact he had on all of us will be everlasting. Although we are saddened that that we no longer have him here physically with us we are beyond grateful for the wonderful life that he was able to live. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday March 8, 2020 at 5:30PM. The celebration will be held at The Chateaux at Fox Meadows.
