Former Nebraska State Senator and former Gretna Mayor Michael T. "Mike" Avery passed away August 30, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 71 years. He was born in Newcastle, Wyoming but spent much of his childhood in Crawford, Nebraska. In 1971 he walked on as a Husker Football Player at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
