Michael's obituary

Dr. Michael Oyewunmi Akintunde, a beloved figure in Morton Grove, IL, transitioned on Palm Sunday, March 24th, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on December 26, 1944, in Oyo State, Nigeria, Dr. Akintunde leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love.

He was a devoted husband to Joy Oluwatomi Akintunde for 53 years and a loving father to his three children, Olusola, Mobolaji, and Ololade Mitchell (née Akintunde). Dr. Akintunde adored his grandchildren, Folasade Snowden-Akintunde, Gbemisola Mireya Nieves-Akintunde, Elisha Olakorede Mitchell, Maliah Grace Temitope Mitchell, Kareem Ayomide Akintunde, and Dima Temidayo Akintunde, bringing joy and laughter to their lives.

An avid gardener and a man of deep faith, Dr. Akintunde was an active participant in his church community, and embodied his values through his actions. His joy came from nurturing and seeing life flourish, whether it was through meticulously tending to a garden, fostering the development of children, offering sagacious advice, or imparting knowledge through human advocacy. His passion extended to the pursuit of wisdom, as he avidly immersed himself in reading, acquiring knowledge, and eagerly sharing those insights with others.

After learning to speak Spanish and completing medical school in Santo Domingo, he dedicated over 20 years of his life to serving the public at Provident Hospital of Cook County as a General Surgeon, where his compassion and expertise touched countless lives.

Dr. Akintunde was preceded in death by his parents, Sir Akinpelu Akintunde, also known as The Balogun of Aiyegbogbo, and Madame Rachel Olayanju Akintunde.

While he may have left this world, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
