Melvin Harris was born May 31, 1952. His illness journey began in his late 30s when he was diagnosed with hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF). He was later diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, diverticulitis, and diabetes in his latter 40s. He had a nephrectomy and Left Ventricular Assist Device ( LVAD) in 2010. He received a heart transplant January 23 2010 and after an extensive 14 hour emergency surgery due to his colon being nicked during …
